Captain Scarlet
Cheap first car for me?
Hendrix
My friend at uni has a diesel Peugeot 106, not the fastest thing, but one tank of fuel goes and goes and goes. Seems a pretty cheap option... Edited August 21, 2008 by Hendrix
Gavyn.
This might sound shallow but... who in there right mind would want to downgrade from a fairly modern larger engined car to a diesel ax?i'd rather give up driving. I spend about 1 and a 1/2 hours in my car commuting every day and i want it to be a pleasant experience not a nightmare. older cars are great for weekend fun but for commuting i don't care how cheap it is i'd rather have something more modern. Hendrix
My friends diesel is fairly quiet. If he went anything above 75 it got a bit noisy, and the suspension was cosy to say the least. I suppose though, it didn't have enough grunt at junctions for anyone who has to carry heavy gear about.
Token
Buy an economical car = job sorted. My van is very economical, just it wont (thanks to shitty tax bands) fall into the economical, environmentally friendly new cars because it is old, turbo and diesel. So yeah, it will be worthless.

Pashley26
Well, i think we established a Diesel AX or old diesel peugeot is the cheapest way of getting around. But for all you plate junkies the new (but still a few years old) rounded shape nissan micras are great on diesel. My mate dave has one and he averaged 83mpg going up to inverness for his holiday. (wich is quite a trek from winchester !)
imhereithink
The most economical thing we can do is stop producing new cars and focus on keeping current cars in operation. Think about all the polution that would be stopped by not producing new cars! Im doing my bit by keeping my 1990 200sx on the road Edited August 22, 2008 by imhereithink
