Mark W
I guess so, although the term "Flaccid" would probably have to be used in the description of said act, if it's called 'Noodling'?
Hendrix
Question - you ever heard of Guthrie Govan?I have indeed.
Mark W
Awesome, it was about time I could say "Guthrie Govan" to someone and actually have them know who he is, haha.

Haz
Wooten is over rated.Stu Hamm FTMFW.
Hendrix
He may be overrated, but he's still good.Stu Hamm is alright, but I'd say he was in the same sort of league as Wooten playing wise.
Mark W
Pretty much.It upsets me no-one's mentioned Billy Sheehan yet.
Hendrix
What about Billy Sheehan. Youtube Video -> Original Video That's not bad.. but I don't like Satch much. And it has Stu Hamm in it before you complain Edited August 29, 2008 by Hendrix
Haz
Pretty much.It upsets me no-one's mentioned Billy Sheehan yet.Because I can't stand his style.I'll admit it's all very technical and stuff, but it's totally lacking in groove.I'm not going to say any of these guys aren't talented, but I can't listen to music by Wooten or Sheehan without thinking, where's the actual music.Hamm has the groove and the skills, I like that. Dr. Nick Riviera
Anything which isn't following root notes of the power chords guitars play is over the line really. you weirdo's need to learn your place.
Mark W
Sheehan does do a lot of properly tech stuff, but saying that, he does still do some pretty rad groove shit. I can't remember particular songs, but I used to rinse the G3 and Steve Vai DVDs off my friend on a pretty regular basis.Speaking of G3, the second most awkward moment in my musical life was seeing just how little Yngwie Malmsteen got the point when playing with G3. It really was a f**king abomination. It was also made slightly worse because I saw the clip of him threatening to fight with a woman on a plane, using the phrase "Don't make me unleash the fooking fury" minutes beforehand. Mark W
FWIW, as a bassist, I find the term "Groove" to be almost as gay as the use of the term "sid" in trials
Haz
FWIW, as a bassist, I find the term "Groove" to be almost as gay as the use of the term "sid" in trials Well what should I be saying then, oh great one?
Mark W
Nothing in particular, it's just "groove" is one of the typical muso phrases that make me want to have less and less to do with the muso world Oh, and yeah, guitar vs. bass - although Steve Vai looks massively gay in this, it's still kinda cool in a way... Haz
And FWIW, I can't stand Wooten's arrangement of Amazing Grace.Anyway, Claypool all up in this bitch. From now on, a person with 'groove' will now be know as a person with 'twat'.e.g. I am a big fan of Stu Hamm's twat. Mark W
Yeah, some of his stuff was cool, but a lot of his Primus stuff was a bit 'meh' for me.And yeah, I f**king hate Jaco Pastorius. There, I said it. Apart from Portrait of Tracy, that was reasonably alright, and that was just 'cos I learnt to enjoy playing it 'cos I had to

Mark W
But I play a 6-string bass, which is the same amount of strings as a guitar, apart from the action and string spacing make mine harder to play than a normal guitar, thus making me better and guitarists 'tards?
