Could Cars Run Off Alcohol?

I think so, wasn't it rumoured that Prince Charles run his car on Wine?

Or someone else I can't quite remember.

I think methanol is a better idea, the government could pass a law saying that all cows had to where a gas collecting nappy type device, then there you go. Instant, sustainable cheap fuel!

Thats Methane.

In theory ->

Carbon dioxide = good

Water = good

Happy days

As I'm sure you're very aware, it's extremely rare to have combustion to be complete. Hence all sorts of nastiness out exhausts.

Aaaaaannnnnnnnnyway, you can't run a standard car on methanol. The compression ratio required is completely different to petrol. Methanol is also a cold burning fuel so I imagine some modification to the cooling system would have to be made.

I've done 7,000 miles on Cooking Oil it's not really that amazing.

As for the question in hand, I believe that the government plan to mix in bio fuels into current fuels something like 8% bio-fuels by 2012. So you'd get ethanol being mixed into Petroleum and Bio-diesel (cooking oil) in with normal Diesel to extend the fuel supplies.

That's right. So we will use only 92% of the oil we use now...

...while increasing the cost of food, since it's the same land producing both the food and the biofuels.

It's a completely ridiculous idea that's going to take a lot of money out of pockets in this country, and a lot of food out of mouths in the third world.

Hopefully it'll put more money into the country rather than giving it all to Saudi Arabia an other middle eastern oil producing countries. If the farmers of this country can produce enough of both then they are going to get very rich, more and more land will be used and our economy will get a bit of a boost. As for other countries being unable to feed their population, that is purely because the government is too stupid and wont put restrictions on food prices and a minimum limit of food each farmer has to produce. In the short term it is the best alternative for rapidly increasing fossil fuel prices and the lack of it being produced.

Yea it is... its a hydroCARBON... H2O is way better than CO or CO3

Total combustion ***

Are you saying CO2 is a hydrocarbon you hillbilly?
