Giant Stp

apart from the chainstay length and bb height (which should feel like an old skool trials) then it should be very bunnyhop/spin moves happy. back wheel stuff and TGS riding will be out of the window i should imagine...

just make sure you get rigid forks with the same length as sus forks (either 80/100mm) travel, or run sus and experiment!

i'd say go for it, it'll be a change and fun.

start watching jeff lenosky videos... :shifty:

Yeah go for it with maybe some short travel forks, it would be a good experiment! One that i've also recently undertaken with suspension on a Base TA26... seems good so far! I know its not the same but i have ridden the Giant Team trials frame for ages now (with rigid forks) and absolutely love its old school geometry for streety riding.

If it goes horribly wrong, base frames are only 99 quid (Y)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking about. Upgrade it to trials spec then if I didn't like the frame get a Base or Czar FT or something. The fork that is on it now is a 100mm suspension fork cut down to 50mm. Looks good like that, but was wondering if anything would be wrong with that? Are there rigid trials forks cut to that length?

I think I will stick with 26". I am going to still be running gears with it. So I will get a trials 6 speed hub and a mixed up cassete with gears from about 12, up to 22 teeth I think. Do I need a front freewheel for this or a cog? Does it engage in the rear? Also, what is the best out of the way trials derraiulerr (spelling)? Anybody know the wheelbase of an STP?

Anybody know the wheelbase of an STP?

I think the short is 1045 and the long is 1070...or something like that, mind you they have a 69 degree head angle...so it'll feel really short in comparison with something designed for trials, with the same wheelbase.

I'd stay away from those if I were you. Waste of time and money IMO.

Why? Your opinion please.

A dirt jumping bike doesn't make a good street/trials bike

Whatever about his opinion on this (It is a valid one, dirt jump/street rigs do feel cramped on the back wheel) trust me on this, do not get into an argument about it with him. He comprehensively beat me into the ground on this topic :- . But if the frame is being built up for street-trials or street/trials (Ah, subtle differences in interpretation for the win. I would be implying the "artistic" style of riding rather than the "mathematical/competition targeted" riding which is stereotypically referred to as simply "trials mtbing".) I think it'll be perfect. As a strictly trials frame though, it has got such a short reach it'll feel cramped when you have it straight up and vertical on the back wheel.

(On a side note to Jason, I still maintain I'm right! :P )
