eskimo
I was looking at stuff like that a while back. I think it's best to stay away from companies that you haven't heard much from, like i read some bad stuff about Creative and i know a few friends who had theirs break. But from reading what you wrote i can make little sense from it. Your having a problem with supported file types? I use a program called Videora Ipod Converter. It puts any video file into a .mp4 format. You get to choose quality and conversion speed, plus it's freeware which is awesome. Plus a few other features.Anyway it seems you might be left in the shit hole once support disappears for that device? Who knows?

eskimo
Google my friend. But who knows about the date, annoying i bet! I just checked their website and they have firmware/ software, support and other stuff on there. Maybe this is of some use? I couldn't really find what you needed though due to not knowing the exact model you have, seems there's many.
JD™
I'm presuming you have the 704 Wifi from your description of 40gb and Wifi... so follow this link and follow the instructions. If I'm wrong then just find the right one and do the same
