MadManMike
Right, I managed to drop and smash my strobe light, so I'm making a new case for it and fixing the problem it has.The picture below shows a loose cable, I'm guessing that doesn't go on the PCB anywhere, but is to be attached to the case to earth it?I need to know what to do with that cable as I don't want to blow myself up!Is there any limitations as to what I can use to make the case? I was going to make a wooden base and put glass / plastic over it so you can see the actual PCB not just the flashbulb.
Tomm
The picture below shows a loose cable, I'm guessing that doesn't go on the PCB anywhere, but is to be attached to the case to earth it?Yeah, exactly that. If you're not using a metal case then it doesn't really matter as it can't short out on a plastic casing.
Endohopper
Was the reflective cowl( silver conical thing) destroyed ?
MadManMike
Was the reflective cowl( silver conical thing) destroyed ?No, but I plan on putting a mirror in my new case... I haven't made it yet, it'll be custom made to fit a DJ booth, probably flash under the booth Thanks Tomm, screwing the cable to the wooden base would be ok then? Christophe'
Yeah, exactly that. If you're not using a metal case then it doesn't really matter as it can't short out on a plastic casing.obviously have to make sure the earth wire tag is well insulated(not going to touch anything else on the circuit) and that the new case is very well insulated. Gavyn.
just tape the end up and leave it unless you plan on fitting a metal bracket or something along those lines in which case you might want to earth it but there's not really any need. does the strobe get hot? wood might not be the best material to use if it does. oh and if your not using the earth just make sure it can't touch any live components. I have a quick question for you too. when you play venues or use any of your equipment in public places do you have to have it pat tested like a normal household appliance? Hendrix
Nope. Not unless you let other people use it.Unless there are a whole different amount of rules for DJ's.
Gavyn.
ahh ok i thought that might have gotten a bit costly at £4 an appliance or whatever the going rate is now.
Hendrix
I hope legislation hasn't changed (if I spelt that right).I know when I worked for sony a while back, none of the live equipment had been tested in years..
Tomm
No, but I plan on putting a mirror in my new case... I haven't made it yet, it'll be custom made to fit a DJ booth, probably flash under the booth Thanks Tomm, screwing the cable to the wooden base would be ok then?I would have thought so, or just insulating it to ensure that you don't short it out on anything else inside the case. I think Endohopper was saying if you have a cowl (or any other external metal bits), make sure those are earthed.
