Andeee
Hey i am soon to be getting a new set of wheels and i am thinking of running q/r on the rear as i was previously using pro2 trial bolt on. I had problems with keeping the wheel in straight/dished etc. I am just concerned how reliable the strength of a quick release would keep the tension on my bike. On tarty it states :Compatible with all rear hubs except Chris King hubs with Fun Bolts (can be used with QR adaptors, or with a slight modification to the tensioner). Just concerned how people managed? Thanks Andy
that NBR dude
Mine never worked for me with a QR. No matter how tight I did it up, it would always move. Ended up getting so annoyed I zip tied it in place. I tried all sorts of things like putting rubber washers inbetween the frame and tensioner, griding the surface to make it rougher, but nothing worked. toyota200x
I have a Chris King Classic QR with a Shimano QR skewer. My 74kings tensioner is homemade but it never slips with this setup. Shimano QR or Bolt On QR is the only way to go.
spaceman
Hey i am soon to be getting a new set of wheels and i am thinking of running q/r on the rear as i was previously using pro2 trial bolt on. I had problems with keeping the wheel in straight/dished etc.I'm using the 74kingz too, and I also have problems keeping the wheel straight/dished. The wheel seems to be dished to one side cos the dropouts are "forced" out due to the tensioner being wedged there. I'm using a pro2 trial bolt on. Does anyone have this problem too? Or rather, is it normal? It's quite troublesome cos I have to offset the magura slave cylinder too (one being more inwards than the other). My friend is running a 74kingz with a qr for 3 months, so far the chain only skipped off twice.
Nick Harding
I gave up using a 74kingz on my inspired due to the fact it would never sit properly. you kinda had to have one person holding it in place, tensioning it and another to do the wheel up. I only used it with a q/r though.Nick
forteh
My home made tensioner is bolted directly to the frame through the mech hanger bolt (using an M4 countersunk allen screw so it doesnt rub on the freehub), it never moves and stays on the frame when you take the wheel out.No reason why you shouldnt be able to put a 74k one in the same place with a bit of fiddling with washers Looks something like this....edit1: the actual spring bit isnt a spoke anymore, now got half a hacksaw blade bolted either side of the square aluminium block and a tyre lever taped between the 2 to make a leaf spring.edit2: oh yeah, chris king hub with shimano QR. Soon I would be changing to 18:14 and I hope I don't have to use the tensioner too.
