Boswell
I was speaking to my driving instructor yesterday and he said that only 25% of people are passing there driving test inlcuding people who have done in more than once! Do you think this shows that expectations are too high?

Danny
No. Its too easy if anything and the age should be put up to
Luke Rainbird
Look at the amount of retards on the road, it's certainly not to hardThey should make you redo it at regular intervals too, the amount of people I meet on a daily basis who can't park/reverse etc is absurd
BONGO
The amount of dick heads on the roads makes me think it's far too easy.
David
Judging by the amount of idiots on the road and people I know who have passed, I certainly don't think so. I think the pass rate is low in many areas due to socialogical issues.
Ollie Histon
i don't think it's too hard exactly but it's really annoying, you can fail for ridiculous things. i've failed my test twice now and it's getting expensive, the most annoying part is im a safe and sensible driver whereas many of my friends are idiots in a car. i could rant about how annoying they are for hours, but i want to hear some opinions from people in my position who have failed or passed recently?rather than the arrogant views of older people, who are the best drivers in the world by the sounds of it. Hendrix
To be honest, the amount of bad drivers on the road, is quite high. Though from what I've now seen, and majority are about 30...I know they want to in-force the whole maximum 1.0l engine restriction on people under 21, but that will fail. - Mainly... what's the quickest 1.0(roughly) mini, on the road. Going to assume it's extremely fast...On that subject - They should just limit BHP and max speed.Edit: If they did enforce the whole maximum engine cc limit, it would affect me on the basis of, I cannot have a small car for what I do. I would be happy for them to limit my maximum speed though... Edited August 3, 2008 by Hendrix

Ollie Histon
If experienced drivers are arrogant, it seems new drivers are naive...i'm just saying it's quite likely that at least once somebody else has thought you were a 'dickhead' on the road. we all make mistakes..but anyway, the driving test get's increasingly harder all the time, 20 odd years ago it was nothing like as strict as it is today. Very True.I can also agree with having to retest at certain intervals. Some of the elderly people I've seen - I know it's their only mode of transport - but they are really quite bad. The Duck
I think its not a case of it being too easy or too hard, its just irrelevant. I'm 'learning to drive' at the moment, got my test in a couple of weeks. Some of the completely daft things that one has to do in order to pass their test I find frustrating. I'm too tired to expand on this at the moment, but I'm sure I will tomorrow after another driving 'lesson'
Hendrix
Just had a speak to my GF's dad - who is a driving instructor. He says; The average pass rate over the whole country is 44% and they're going to make it harder. They have to make it harder cause the amount of traffic is getting higher, roads are more dangerous. BONGO
i know it's chinese whispers with much of the country, but i've heard that in the next month or so they are changing the rules so that you have to have 200 hours of lessons before you are ligable for your test??? Hendrix
That would be in all the papers, headlines etc.Plus. That would mean. £20 Per Lesson x 200 = £4000.Would make learning to drive un-feasible. Unless, driving your own car counts
Tom_
I dont think its to hardI think its wrongly done, driving lessons teach you to pass the test not to drive, thus a large number of shit drivers on the road (aswell as a large number of them being complete and utter f**king wankers as people)Personally I think it should be more of a set up that you have an instructor that teachs you to drive, properly, and they give you your licence after they feel you are a capable driver, NOT after you happen to luck your way through a checklist with a few (NOT ALL) retarded points on it. Hendrix
That's actually a good idea. Some people could take ages, some could take no time at all.Though -as my friend has just said. The government said they're going to do a lot of things, how many things do they actually do?
Simpson
I found it wayyy tooooo easy... 1st time theory with 2 practices and 7 hour long lessons.... yea... dead hard
BONGO
Like it's been said, you don't get taught how to drive, only how to pass. THAT'S what's wrong, as not everyone realises this and goes out thinking they are Lewis Hamilton, and end up being Ayrton Senna.
Gavyn.
it's too easy. Saying that, it's alot harder than it used to be. Personally the only way i can see people's driving getting better is by making everyone do a compulsary test every 5 years. 17 is a good age to drive at. I need to drive for work. so i think you should be able sit your test at 17 providing you have reason to drive like work.
Joel
I think its too easy, I passed with only 2 minors when I counted in my head another 3 more. But on the other hand its quite hard as one of my friends failed it 4 times and on her 5th she passed with 15 minors! I agree with doing another test for every 5 years of experience, I also think that if you cause an accident you should get points. I think most OAP drivers should be banned, motorway driving is a nightmare when one justs pulls from the fast lane (doing 75mph) into the middle lane with yourself doing 75mph. Also they just fly into a roundabout without looking grrrrr

mr ailsbury
To be fair i've noticed that the majority of nob head drivers are the older, "I've been driving down this road at 11am on a Thursday for the last 40 years and if there is a kid in the road whilst i'm doing it its their own fault " types. And people in 4x4's that try to race you/shove you out of the way if you over take them because they can't bare to not be at the front of the traffic. etc.A chunk of the people my age that I know with cars have to have them or they simply wouldn't be able to get to college 'cause they live right out in the sticks and they all drive sensibly. bollo you ball-bag
driving tests are too easy yes.i passed my theory first try no practicei passed my driving test after 5 lessons. 2 of which i only took after a 4 week break so i could get used to driving instructors car again.putting a engine capacity limit on young people will not help. i have a 1.0 vw polo which does 100 easy. also it wouldnt help industry. im a apprentice electrician and work all over country and need to drive. for this i have an o8 2.9 liter vivaro wan. if engine size was limited i wouldnt be able to drive this van and wouldnt be able to do my job which means id never gain qualifications.some people are sensible some others are tossers.its hard to learn to drive with someone sat next to you telling you how to hold the steering wheel. people learn to drive after theyve passed their test.people should be assesed 5 years after passing their test but not on how they hold steering wheel or if they cross their arms etc etc, but on how safe observant and considerate they are.
