Fixed Pants™
Btwins seem alright, worked on one today, the blue one. Pretty average really, and nearly good value...
Shaun H
What's this talk of looking cool on a fixie!? Can't believe some people are that delusional that they believe it's actually possible to not look a berk on a road bike I got a puncture on my Vanquish today cos some loser in a VW hadn't left me enough room, just went to go up this low curb and my tyre just decided to deflate out of pure boredem.....Anyway, I guess since you didn't list them it's no use to you, but I find the Carrera range to be pretty solid. I've got a Vanquish and my brother has one of the lower end ones. Both had no problems whatsoever (apart from me raping my Bikehut wheelset when I crashed ). Fixed Pants™
f**king vans etc... It's havoc riding around London in traffic...Shaun, yeah, the more expensive end of the Carrera road bikes are good, lowest ones aren't all that but still alright. I've told a Virago, and a Titan so far Edited July 31, 2008 by Fat Pants™
Matt Burrows
The Giant you linked to in the first post is pretty good for the money. Its got steel forks and the spokes are 3x so it will be better suited to going up and down curbs than most, certainly better than the more expensive Giants that have gay spoking patterns. And yeah Tom was spot on about Singlespeeds, just don't bother. If you want to commute fast and easily then gears will be very useful. People are suggesting them because they are simple and cheap. But have others have said, if you're on a tight budget then Halfords do some basic but reasonable road bikes. If you can get a good discount off RRP then you'll have much better bikes to choose between, spec improves very quickly as you move away from entry level (although they often become more fragile in the pursuit of low weight)
Tomm
Can't believe some people are that delusional that they believe it's actually possible to not look a berk on a road bikeGood word. Props. And yeah Tom was spot on about Singlespeeds, just don't bother. If you want to commute fast and easily then gears will be very useful. Just don't buy one with the aim of looking 'cool' because that's stupid.
