aener
Found this after watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dv-ISen-UTQ.Been considering it for a while now - but I've been re-inspired by that video.Obviously not bunny-hops - but if you just like... hop the front wheel up a kerb, then the back - is that enough to damage roadie rims? Also - I'm 5'8"... Would I be looking at the "Medium (50cm)" or "Large (55.5cm)"? Is that measurement the length of seat-tube to headtube, or something? Or top of seat-tube to BB maybe? If anyone wants shot of their roadie - I'll probably consider taking it off you

Bianchi Pistas are a bargain for the dollah, at around 400 quid. 19ish lbs too, and it's steel! How much are you looking at spending roughly? aener
£300 max, if possible.I've got a friend in a shop, who said he can get it on trade for me - which might make things a little better.I'm not after being cool - I'm after getting to work and back, fast, without having to fork out for petrol.Been doing it on a general MTB, until a month ago, when it gave up.It's f**king HORRID to ride - so I think I'll just get a new one - in a new catagory, rather than fix it up. Fixed Pants™
Hmm, what brands can your mate get? 300 isn't really enough if you're paying retail price, new. Trade, 300 quid would be alright...

Revolver
For the fun factor, as well as speed, 24" cruiser bmxs are a good choice. Not as fast as a roadie though. But it won't break!
aener
Listen to this boi yer?I wasn't not going to He says he can get the following:Claud Butler,Dawes, Coyote,Kona,Merridia,Specialised,And probably a few others.
Fixed Pants™
Merida are a good choice. They're really unhead of, but basically, they make the frames for the big boys such as specialized, took the best of the best, mixed it up a bit and made loads of bikes. Really, theres a similar Merida for every bike lol. Not seen any Merida road bikes in the flesh though...The rest - Claud Butler, meh.Dawes, used to be awesome, not so great now.Coyote?Kona roadbikes are pretty over priced, but you'll get a decent one if you're getting it trade price.Specialized, yeah alright, but not great. SP Allez seems to be quite a nice, popular choice. Give one a look.
Skoze
Specialized aren't that bad! You'll be fine bumping up and down kerbs occasionally, i'd never do it on mine with the tri-spoke, but you'll be fine with the normal rims Have you ever ridden with look cleats? I'd strongly recommend some! Feel so good!Have a look on the fleabay, would be surprised yo what you can get for £300!If you want to be really cool, i have a spare disc wheel in the garage
_Owen.
I'd deffo say go for a Specialized out of them makes! I'v got myself a langster, single speed, hub is double sided, so if you fancy and bit of fixie fun, then just spin the wheel round. Great bike, being a Specialized you get your lifetime warrenty on the frame aswell, so if you do tw*t it down 20 stairs, tell them you were just riding along and it broke, and theyle send you a new'un! And you said, like me, you can get trade, so you will also get a stupid cheap deal like i did!! If you want gears, id say go for a Specialized Allez. Great entry level bikes from spesh, still with your lifetime warrenty, The double chainring (ont front) is £500, and the tripple is £550. So at trade youl get it silly cheap. Both great bikes, just depends what your after i surpose. I love my Langster though! Owen

N.Wood
Don't take advice from Glen, he's worked at Evans. The Specialized Allez range is sweet, really good frames and fairly decent spec. I ride one so they must be good. The Pinnacle range from Evans is really good if a little unknown, they have top parts on them for their price bracket and have watched the frame designs grow over the years and nicked the best ideas from the best brands. If you're after singlespeed, the Langster is good value but aluminium nd the '08 graphics are pretty dire. Surly Steamrollers, Cannondale Capo and Good old Pistas are better bikes but out of your budget for the most part.If you do go for the Allez, try to upgrade the cranks in the future because they tend to be real flexy and stiffer ones transform the ride
Tomm
If you wanna be cool, get a fixie. Manchester has quite a wannabe courier 'scene' and they're all idiots as far as I can tell. Gears are useful. I would probably ride a fixie if I thought it would be fun (for short periods, they are) but as for riding it to make you look cool? If you think that, you probably fit into the aforementioned idiot category.I use my road bike for commuting and general razzing about. It's a Carrera something or other - hear me out on this one. It was about £240 and I've had it over two years now with no complaints at all. It's fast, smooth, and it all works brilliantly. Plus it's not too flash which means it doesn't get stolen. Mine's done over 3000 miles and it's still 100% original. That's pretty awesome if you ask me. I don't care about going for 'fun' rides on a road bike or training or any of that stuff (or using it to look 'cool'), but for just getting from A-B and leaving it there, it's the perfect bike
Hendrix
I've ridden a fixie a few times. It's great if you're a courier in London, London with no hills Would strongly advise something with gears.
Fixed Pants™
If you get a roadie, and you go to fast, will you still be able to grip the handle bars..? heheheErm? Yes??
Pashley26
A Sub £300 roadie is going to be hard work, and generally gay. They only get *Nice* when you get over £500.Or to Specialized Roubaix money. My Serious Roadie is a 2007 S-Works Tarmac SL in Quick Step colours. With Roval Fusee wheels, Full Sram Red chainset and shifters from a 2008 S - Works. My out for a ride on a summers day is a Wilier Mortirolo. But that feels more racey than the Sworks ! Fixed Pants™
SRAM red?Should have got Dura Ace Go for a roadbike with Shimano, or Campag (Shimano is better in the lower range models, and just generally, Shimano is better )
N.Wood
Errr... Roubaix frames have wank geometry unless you're 60+ years old
JD™
Don't know if you've thought about it, but what about singlespeed? You can get some sexy stuff for small amounts of money in that market. I get about quite nicely day to day on a Specialized Langster London and it definately doesn't limit you only having one gear, just makes you less lazy. Pashley26
Errr... Roubaix frames have wank geometry unless you're 60+ years old HAHA...I always found them comfy as f**k over long trips, i did London to Paris and back in last year on a Roubaix with full Zerts and when i finished i could actually walk ! One of the best *Touring* bikes i've ever ridden.* = Loosly speaking
N.Wood
Except we're not talking about touring. And Zertz inserts are a joke, the UK regional manager for Specialized lives in Soho which happens to be where I work... And he himself had told us they're nothing more than a marketing tool. But if you liked the geometry thats cool, different strokes for different folks I guess...
aener
I hate you Boumsong.Would the Giant one be Ok?I don't need it to be really sweet - but it wants to be nice enough that I don't dread riding it.Other than that - I've been advised about a Claud Butler Levante.Supposedly really good spec. value for the money.I'll look into the Specialised.Cheers. ken_nic
I'm quite surprised no one has sugested Decathlon at your price range. I've not actually ridden one of there bikes but many many of the other random things they sell seem to be very good value.DecathlonNick
