TrialZonn
Hello everyone...I am going to buy a new hub and I want to know what's your opinion on some of the most known in here...Until now I have in mind these:the Hope Pro 2 07' and the Deng Freehubs (GU,ECHO,ZOO,ADAMANT)(135mm)I'm not an experienced rider but I must buy a new hub because my old one needs change and it's not safe to ride with it...I want something reliable first, with good strengh. And of course with a lot of engegement points (my old one had around 30+ I think. It was working nice for my level of riding but I prefer to buy something with more engegement points like the Hope Pro)I can spend around 50-70£...If you have another hub in mind that is good for trials riding and you have tested them please let me know...And if anyone has a hub that he don't need anymore but still works fine please inform me...The less used the better of course. psycholist
The Deng freehubs seem to be a bit variable in terms of reliability - they look to be pretty well made though. Awkward to build into a wheel compared to most hubs as the spoke holes are a very tight fit, but that should mean less fatigue failures in the built wheel. A lot of people on this forum complain about them being unreliable and a friend of mine (The only person I know who runs one) had his freehub start to spin foward under power - the ratchet ring was moving in the hub body, replaced within a week under warranty, but if it had broken loose on the edge of something it'd have been very nasty... Chris King and Pro II's are the only back hubs that seem very well regarded for trials - nothing in the price range you're looking in is that trusted. I run a fixed Deng hub with an ENO freewheel on the cranks and prefer it to freehub style hubs though.

Tomm
Don't be so hasty - I can spend around 50-70£...If I were you, I'd get a second hand Hope XC / Mono for under £50. Or even a new one if you can find one. Not as good as the Pro II engagement-wise but it's almost half the price and just as reliable (if not more so, in fact). psycholist
Having used the Hope XC hub for XC I'd stay well away from them as they're not even strong enough for that. Freehub bearings went draggy in months, shoulder on the axle to space the freehub and hub bearings deforming, damage on the freehub from the flex in the hub axle allowing the ratchet ring to gouge the freehub, visible deformation in the freehub spline (The cassette had to be hammered off - this was a steel freehub body BTW!!) and the ratchet pawls were also deformed... Hope informed me that the hub wasn't suitable for trials when I contacted them about the hub damage (Even though I'd never used it for trials), presumably if you ride these hubs heavily they fail the same way as trials riding makes them fail. Tomm
Until the Pro II came out, everyone was using Hope XCs for trials (well, at least everyone who couldn't afford a King). They're fine. XC riding kills bearings which probably accounts for the play and deformation, and a bit of 'visible deformation' on the freehub body is nothing to worry about. I've never seen a hub which doesn't suffer from that! I used a Hope XC for years for trials, and I'm running one now on my mountain bike. No problems. The other option is a DMR revolver hub + ACS claw. Rock solid, cheap, builds into a strong wheel, and you can upgrade the freewheel to something like a Tensile/ENO in the future if you want more engagements. Muel
My mate has a Mono, the number of engagements isn't brilliant, but once you get used to it, you can easily live with it.If you want my advice, try and get your hands on a second hand Pro II. Although the Mono/XC will be fine, Pro IIs are better.
Matthew_Gibson
XC are great lil hubs for the money! but for £100 I think you can get an 2006 version of the ProII if tarty still have any!
Luke Rainbird
...and if you can't afford new, I've paid £50 for a near new Pro II second hand twice now

JonMack
Don't be so hasty -I wasn't being nasty I was taking into account this,Until now I have in mind these:the Hope Pro 2 07' and the Deng Freehubs (GU,ECHO,ZOO,ADAMANT)(135mm)But yeah, as Luke said you should be able to pick up a used Pro 2 for cheap enough in the For Sale section
MadManMike
You're all spoilt these days - my trials crew about 5-6 years ago all used skip-happy Deore LX hubs
TrialZonn
Thanks for the information...I will stay away from Deng hubs and try to get my hands on a Hope Pro...If I'm lucky enough my local shop can bring one to me as they told me that they have Hope Disk-brakes (I think that means that they can order any Hope product)...If they can order me one I think that I can give more money to buy a new one (only if it costs under 130£ though)...If not, then I hope I can find something in the ''for sale'' section of the forum around the price I told before (50-70£)Many thanks to all of you!
