Suspension Forks

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on building a bike soon that will be reasonable for trials, but also enough of a normal bike to be used for other fun bike related activities too.....

As a result i'm thinking of some smallish travel front suspension forks, but don't know anything about them, particularly when they're used in this way.....

I've a definite top end price of 200 pounds, but ideally would prefer to not spend any more than 150, can i get what i need for this much? I'm just hoping to make use of anybodys experience with doing something similar to this?

Thanks

Oh i forgot to mention, i'm hoping to find some with v mounts as otherwise i'll have to buy more parts than i'd like.....

From experiance you cant really get a decent set of new forks for that much. But you might be able to get a decent set of old dirt jams or maybe even some dirt jumper 3's if you have a look around on ebay and southern-downhill forum etc. If your wanting to do a wee bit of trials then lower the travel when you get them. if there quite long 80mm of travel would be perfect for a more all round bike

what the mz super comps?

i have a had a pair for a year im about 16ish stone and done a fair few big drops/gaps to flat on them and still going strong all depends on how you land

By no means am I an expert on suspension forks, but you might want to think about ordering a fork from North America. 150 GBP is 300 CAD, and prices here seem to be the same number just different unit (150 GBP from a store in UK, or 150 CAD from a store in Canada. Don't ask me why). All I know is, $300 can get you a NICE fork.

Cheers buddy

Get an identiti dr jekyll or krisis and put rockshox recon on, they're very light and adjustable, so you can lower them for trials, and raise them for anything else.

I suggest those frames because they both come with +10mm BB, which is good, unlike most jumpy frames that have BB sink.

Thanks, but i'm actually a wierd person and like bb sink, my trials bike currently is a giant, with a bb of about -5 or -10, and i love it! I was thinking of a base TA26 frame, as its short with short chainstays, and with a steep head angle which will be good for the forks.

Plus i might get it in pink! (Y)

I've got a pink identiti dr jekyl in pink with drop off forks, micro gearing, freecoaster, 24" halo rims, 3 piece cranks, rear mono trial etc i'll sell for the right price

Thanks but thats not quite what im after, and i wont be building this from scratch....

I have been using a pair of marzocchi mx pro LO's for a few months now and they're still going strong. They are quite light and cheap (around £150 rrp), although they have developed quite alot of play in the bushings.

That's good to know as i'm thinking along similar lines to those!
