What Upgraded Parts To Get?

If you can ride rather than think about what to change on your bike, you will end up becoming a much better rider.

Literally the second I started earning money, I went and spent it on my bike, got carried away with it I went from a T-Vee to a T-Pro to an Echo lite in the space of 11 months, and I have no original components from the first build.

I feel that is a mistake, I think way to much about my bike and all the little things and say "Oh if my brake worked a little better I'd be able to do that gap", its not the way to go just ride.

I run a Hope mono trials on the front and a magura on the rear of my fairly well specced Echo Lite (smooth rim on the rear brake), and when I was riding a local competition (I ride blue route which is around the medium level of competition) literally as the rain started my rear brake wasn't doing anything, and the front brake was working fairly well, I decided to give up due to my rear brake not working (and me not being confident with this fact).

However, in the same route as me is a lad much younger than me, with a near standard T-Bird (I think he has upgraded to Magura's), but he too was running smooth rims front and rear so his braking situation was worse than mine, I have also been told that he hasn't progressed onto backwheel moves yet, but he went on to complete the sections I quited on with a clean, not dabbing once.

Overall out of about 12 people I think it was, I came second from last, and I think the young lad came 3rd, so it's really inspiring to know of someone like that, and always look up to him when I always think about spending loads of money on improving my bike and realise it is not needed.

And finally if you upgrade your parts when you become a lot better, the change in weight and geometry is much more beneficial and noticeable when you are good enough to tell of the difference.

May sound like a real bad rant at you, and I am obviously the hypocrite here, but if you keep your components standard it will; save you money, be beneficial to you at a later stage, and will be more rewarding for you.

Thats coming from personal experience, I just wish I hadn't gone over the top on my bike, but I guess at the end of the day it is entirely up to you.

agreed. Remember 90% Rider 10% Bike. Well this is the case in Motocross and i assume the statistic si similar in Bike Trials (Maybe more like 80%-20%).

Learn with what you have got. Unless what you need is vital.

The things that HAVE to work on my bike so that i will not be worried and can practice 90% of stuff is Back brake, Front Brake, Drivetrain not messing up. then you are good to go.

Don't go upgrading just for the sake of it. Wait till you improve, then upgrade.

All the parts i break i nearly always bodge up, i only buy the new part when the bodge breaks. Just practice as much as poss.

I would recomend fixing parts properly though, as bodges can be sketchy and always take ages to perfect. Recently i've spent like £100 on my bike just fixing bodges!! haaa-

Had to fix: Cranks - Bodged on (rounded)

TPA -Broken so i bodged it.

Crossover - like 13cm long!!

Bent wheel

Mech hanger - Bodged

Tensioner - bodged on old crapy mech..

bottom bracket was messed

front disc adapter.

finally i;ve bought all the right stuff!!!!
