CurtisRider
Right, i have a tryall 18t freewheel out back along with a 22t ring upfront. My gearing is a little too pedally for my style, and i want something a touch harder. Im currently running 3 piece cranks, and they aren't being changed, so i would either need to buy a smaller freewheel, which would be a 16t one, or a bigger chainring which i seem to only be able to get in 24t (5arm) what to do? ideally only want to jump a tooth size down out back (or 1 tooth more upfront) but neither 17t freewheels or 23t rings exist unless i've missed them! will 22:16 be too hard? will 24:18 feel horrible? 24t is the cheapest option (preferable) but i want my bike to actually feel good to ride i know my choice to keep with the existing cranks limits me but i don't want to change so that is that any help would be great

sstein
I ride 22:16 and to be honest there is not much difference from 22:18.
CurtisRider
ahh no way i missed the 17t option! i remember the 1t difference being quite noticeable on my previous bikes, just an expensive way to find out how about front chainrings? anybody seen a 23t? im thinking of getting a 23t rear sprocket off a cassette and drilling it to fit?
