Reinis.
Looks like that my headset's lower part is somehow damaged. I want to take a look at the bearings. I have a ZOO! headset and I can't open it. I just don't know how. So, how can I open my zoo! headset?
Walleee
take your top cap off, take your stem off, take a hammer and whack the steerer hard, pushing the forks out of the frame. that should do the trick. You might want to put a bit of wood over the end of the steerer to keep it from getting damaged.
Reinis.
I know how to take the fork out. And I have done it already, but now I want to open the headset, so I can look inside it and see what's the problem. How can I open my headset, so I can see the bearings? Walleee
I'm not familiar with zoo headsets, but i'd imagine if the bearings arn't visible after removing the forks that it uses sealed bearings..... so im really not sure if what you describe is possible. Sorry I can't help more no doubt someone will chip in soon enough.
Reinis.
Yes, it has sealed bearings.
Walleee
I'm 90% sure you can't service sealed bearings, you may be able to replace them if you can find a supplier but i'd say that's about the best you could do if need be......
Reinis.
How I can replace them, if I can't open the headset?
trials_pimp
These Types of Headset arent designed to be Serviced or Repaired. If there is a Problem all you can really do is bin it and get another. Could try and find someone with some spare parts to Sell you a Lower Cup/bearing assy if its new send it back and see if its covered under its warrnety. Reinis.
So, what do you guys use? Not sealed bearing headsets? I don't like anything that I can't open and service myself .
trials_pimp
I use Sealed bearing headsets. Just when they Break they go in the bin. But to be Honest, My Hope Headset has lasted since 2002. Headsets dont usually break, quite weird you have broken yours. What have you actually done to it?
Reinis.
Nothing special. I was learning front wheel hops. Maybe I screwed the headset too tight. I don't know.
Sponge
email Adam at Tartybikes. He usually will know how to service/repair most things! I do remember clearly, a while ago, where Adam said it was possible but it was hard work. An email to him would give you everything you need to know about these Deng headsets. Muel
I'd just order an FSA if I were you. They are only £22 and they are absolutely fantastic!
CC12345678910
if want something u can repair I've got the perfect thing and it's stupidly cheap as well which is a bonus. Mine works perfectly well and you don't need a bank loan to buy it. http://tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?produc...;category_id=19EDIT: i've just found thishttp://tartybikes.co.uk/product.php?produc...;category_id=57Meaning that headset has to come open somehow (if it fits that is) Edited July 15, 2008 by CC12345678910
