Pedal-ups... Two Techniques?

Hi,

I know pedal-up how-tos have been covered hundreds of time but my recent visit at Trashzen truly mixed me up.

I'm using a full crank rotation for my pedal-ups but have always used the last stroke(choco foot) to lifted the front wheel and do all the job. Basically, i'm starting pulling the handlebar on top of the last pedal stroke. I'm doing it as if it was a rolling pedalkick.

Now Trashzen seems to say that you start lifting the front with your bad foot first.

Is it me that is completely wrong or there's two techniques?

If so.. any pros and cons??

I'm doing no more than 14-15 inches, landing on two wheels most of the time when not pinching flats. >_<

Thanks!!

There's two ways, full stroke, and half stroke.

With full stroke, you start with your good foot foward, then your bad foot lifts the front wheel, and then good foot again for power.

Half stroke, you start with your bad foot high, and end with good foot. You have to do the front whee lifting and power up at the same time.

I've found that full stroke pedal ups have a lot more power. I started doing half strokes, then I got stuck around 30". Now I've learned full stroke properly, and I'm doing around 39".

In my eyes they are worded wrongly.

Full rotation : is bad foot at the top/forward, down goes the bad foot to get the front wheel up then the good foot down for the spring up thus bringing the bad foot up again and tuck

Full rotaion and a half : is good foot at top/forward , goes down and unweighs front wheel ie inch of the ground , bad foot down to lift front wheel high as little effort is required and, good

foot down for the spring and tuck andthis gives more height due to unweighing the front wheel

i try and use both full rotation for tight short run ups the rest full rotaion and a half just depands on what your used to hope this helps

if you use your hands in the sequance that you pedal will also help to choose the one that you use, and always spring up using your good foot which has more power to spring up and bad foot to lift the front wheel as this takes little efort

Been practicing just half an hour today and it felt much better... everything came naturally. I was obviously doing something wrong. I'm still doing the half stroke but start lifting at the end of the bad foot stroke. Made a whole difference.

Still sketchy, i'm not even applying pressure for now and i have more control and can go much longer... just being lazy. Practicing on a curb for now. I'll try to get back to my usual 14-15" when i nailed the full motion perfectly.

I'll keep the full stroke version for dessert as i have a lot to learned yet... for the next time i'll be stucked at 24-30"(hopefully).

I've been busting my ass on this almost everyday for the last two months, whipping those handlebars like crazy... with no success!

Thanks guys... you basically saved my season!!
