HarshRider
hey i have just been trying to sort out my old magura on me bike, its the old style hs33 basically the master cylinder in the lever keeps getting stuck, i striped the whole lever down and cleaned out all the grime and tried it again but still the same result. it was last bleed with water using the bath lol, it has also been sat on my bike not used for around a year, perhaps it froze in the winter and has mucked up. would it help if i got it bleed with oil with the proper bleed kit? or is it likely that the master cylinder is non usable? any help would be appricated (sp) thank you
Daborn Meister
Have u done up the lever clamp bolt to tight? Try loosening it. Joe
JT!
I had the exact same problem. I personally think it might have something to do with bleeding with water. As the piston isn't getting lubed up anymore. Anyway, i just bought a new leaver.
HarshRider
nope, it still does it when there is no lever on the body. its the piston inside the lever that gets stuck, it returns back to normal but can take up to a minuet to do so which means when its on my bike the wheel will get locked for ages I had the exact same problem. I personally think it might have something to do with bleeding with water. As the piston isn't getting lubed up anymore. Anyway, i just bought a new leaver. when it happened to you did you try bleeding it with oil afterwards? also would putting a bit of grease on the piston help or would it mess up the piston, and cause it to leak? HarshRider
cheers for that, ill give it a go tomorrow! wheres the best place to go for replacement seals? is it just a job of going to a plumbing merchant and buying some that fit or would i need special magura ones, cheers
stpatr3k
I've encountered this problem with an HS-22 bled with water. The piston "grew", its wasn't the seal on the piston but the piston itself ... I just got a 1000 & 300 sand paper, sanded the piston with the rough 300 first then finished it off with the 1000, re-bled it and it was fine. liam-pantera
i find that when your lever gets like that the only thing to do is use some realy realy thick oil inside of the brake to lube it up .
Concussion
Same kinda thing happened to me a while back... After messing around with it for ages and having no joy, I noticed the piston had a really slight groove down one side, I lined it up with the `wield` on the lever body where the two halves are joined and it worked fine. (god knows how it got twisted by it's self?)Prior to that the piston would get stuck really bad, but after lining things up it was smooth as anything! Sounds like bullshit I know, but it worked! HarshRider
sorted and working again on water. only problem is my tpa totally fell apart so i have to make one from scratch now. what i did in the end was get a large drill bit and wrapped wire wool around, carefully took it inside the cylinder and piston. put alot of oil in the cylinder and put it back together. good as new, apart from the tpa of course.
