:) I was wondering about the whole 6n 6n2 thing for a while (im too retarded to work it out...)

Anyway, yea if you can find a dece. mk.4 polo 1.4 pref CL then not only are they cheap too insure but providing it is a solid example then it will be a good car, german n all that. All the same you got to remember its going to be like a 8-10+ year old car at that price no matter what you get.

I gots a Corsa and it'z fukin bangin.

Same. Mines an S reg 1.0 and its actually quite rapid (ive surprised a few people who have been passengers) and economical. Ive had mine 6 years and its never let me down (touch wood)... apart from a dead battery one morning - not the car's fault! Best of luck mate (Y)

Just thought Id add something about insurance. When I first started to drive I was paying about £1800 I think - for my 1.0! It went down a little after doing pass plus. Five years later and 5 years n.c.b im paying £215 fully comp. Luckily ive not had to change my car otherwise I think the whole driving game would have been more expensive.

And also, don't go to a main dealer for servicing. Try and find or ask for recommendations for small garages. Drive Vauxhall (local Vaux dealer) charges something like £70 an hour for labour. Previous years have cost about £600+/- for an MOT and service. This years was a nice and modest £262 thanks to a great little garage about 15mins drive from my house. :)

I don't now who Neil is, or who you are. Furthermore, meeting with you in real-life sounds like a recipe for fail.

Naa everybody is much nicer in real life, when they're not typing behind a computer screen as virtual defence... if that works?! But yes, YES, bring on the 1.0 club! :P

Yeah, different people call the polo Mk3/Mk4 different things. Clubpolo disagrees with Wikipedia on what the different mks are, so it's safer just to use 6n.

My Polo is ace. Worth way less than a grand too now. It's R-reg, and a bit rusty, although it still runs fine. It's got 130k on it, and although it seems fine to me, it must be nearing its last journey. Dunno. But yeah, you should be able to get one for sub £1000 with less than 100000 on the clock I reckon. There's really no point going for the CL over the L or anything like that, it basically makes no difference. Get the 1.4 16v if you can find one.

That's if you get a VTEC :P I have a normal 130bhp 1.6, it's still stupidly quick.

A new driver in the uk with 130bhp would get bent over by the insurance company and violated.

And there'd be no lube.

I say look in the local free ads and buy the cheapest thing you can find, check the basics and try to run it for a year.

Fair enough, depends on your age on the valver though, I got a quote as a 17 year old and got well and truley arse raped for it, about 2000 i think. They seem pretty common though and no more expensive really. Pretty nippy too.

Just look round you will find a decent car for cheap (Y). I bought a Polo Coupe S 1.3 Mk2 for 250 as my first car. Spent about 300 to sort it out for M.O.T at Christmas. But now i've sold it after a year for 200. Way i look at it i've spent 350 for the car. Got my year no claims so i can insure on a better car. which i've bought my self a mk4 golf gt tdi 110 bhp for 3000 with F.S.H and piles of receipts so it's been looked after, even though its done 126k yet it still pulls. Raced a apparently 1.6 tuned focus to 120 bhp ha other day, but i think the torque took me a head :P.

It depends what you want the car for, keeping it for a few years? as my main aim was to keep me going for a year and to build up a years no claim so i can insure/cheaper on a bigger engined car.

when i buy a car, i think of the money spent on it as written off. and the car will be used till its too expensive to repair.

thats why i probably wouldnt steer away from german, or even moreso japanese cars.

i havent read many posts but i see alot of numbers like 120hp and 16v im probably guessing. if you go up from the bog standard 1L or 1.2, youve got abit more to pay. tax, petrol
