Do You Ever Need A Seat, Or Do They Just Get In The Way?

As some of you know I'm looking at getting a new mod trials bike but since I'm coming from a stock bike that had a seat it makes me wonder if I would need one?

My choice is pretty much between two brands, Onza and Monty, the Monty's have seats.. (I realise you can remove the seat from the Monty)

Seat or no seat, that is the question!

Edit: this isn't the deciding factor for getting either bike, I'm looking for your opinions.

I bought a full size seat (and 27.2 seatpost) for my TRex. Not a mod obviously, but just thought id mention cos way better than those stumpy seats (I have one of those too) which you cant pedal when ur sat down on.

Ofcourse I dont ride trials with any seat on, but if I know Im going more than a few miles Ill put the seat in my bag, which i usually have anyway for tools and drinks etc.

Yeah I've not sat of one of those little trials seats before, I'm guessing they're pretty much useless anyway?

(getting a trials bike) GF: When you get a bike we can go on cycle rides together?

Ha ha, I just noticed this in your signature, my g/f said the same thing last week!

they are a royal pain in the ass, i hate seats on trials bikes. reasons

1. they are in the way and hit your knees

2. they are uncomftable and if you have a seat you'll sit on it

3. they make the bike took ugly imo. a trials bike is not ment to have a seat, a street/freeride bike is

4. u get little kids coming up to you saying stuff like 'why you got a small seat' or my favorite' can i sit on your bike, i wont rob it i swear' lol.......yea right mte

Hey,

A seat just gets in the way. Like if you were pre-loading for a sidehop you always catch it as you spring up. It's a right pain. But theres no point in a seat. Trials Bikes were made to suit competitions and you don't sit in a comp, apart from when you're resting But it's up to you mate if you want a seat or not. You're decision.

Well, if your frame has a hole for a seatpost id get one because they look gash without one, i run a seat on my base and its good for resting and doesn't get in the way i suppose it comes down to how big your seat is aswell.

On my monty, it once had a seat but i removed it, and if you get the little seat pad it looks ace! £8 from tartybikes click face-> B)

or trials uk do a different variation of it also for £8 (Y)

I have the first one, i prefer it to the other and i have found it wears out a few months slower!

If you do buy one i would file off the hole! If you dont you will find it will peirce the pad!

Jamie

They are the same pad.

they arnt, if you look closely you will see that the lines on each one are slightly diffrent. Although i would agree with you that they are very simular.

Sorry to be picky, but it needed to be said lol.

Tire at about 18-20 lbs, make a great seat on a mod IMO. My mod came with a seat, hit my calves on it all the time, so away it went. If you sit on most mod seats, and try to peddle, you will kick yourself in the ass...too low to use.

I had the same dilema a few months ago. I went from a BT Raven 06 to a Planet X Zebdi so that i could sit down every once and a while. Soon i found out the seat was useless because it was to low for me to sit and pedal at the same time. So unless you're willing to adjust your seatpost height every 5 minutes i wouldn't suggest buying a bike with a seat.
