See, I couldn't disagree more.

Winches are good yeah, but for me part of the fun of "green laning" is knowing that you might get stuck.

Also, if you know you'll have to work hard with hand winches, and shovels etc etc to get out then maybe you'll plan your course a bit more carefully and your truck' will last longer !

As Joe said though, all that goes out the window if your into winch challenges or comp's.

Was gonna go pick up my 86" this weekend, get a call from Steve saying he can't bring himself to sell it! Major downer.

However, been told about a 1950 80" (just like the one above, but the real deal and with a lot less lows) which needs a f**k load of work for cheap, going to have a look tomorrow or sunday... Watch this space, T-F Land Rover crew!

If all goes to plan, this should be the one...

Totally original 1951 80". Naace.

That failed, offered £1500 for a non-runner and he still wouldn't sell it :(

Secondly; does no one do big wheels on here anymore?

Thirdly; seeing how cheap i can get this. '52 80", 3500 V8, kwality.

Tax and tested (or road worthy) you'll be looking at quite a bit, unfortunately lame rovers hold their price very well. You could always look at alternative 4x4's, as you can pick up some pretty cheap tax and tested and be able to still have bags of fun at pay and play sites or just green laning.

If we know your sort of price range we'll be able to help you out a lot better. :)

Definitely! You could pick up a Series 3 leafer just to play with cheap enough taxed and tested, they're more than capable in most situations you'd get yourself into with a half decent set of tyres on. I know of one going that needs very little doing to get it ropad legal for £250, most taxed and tested ones hover at about <£750

Alternatively, you could get what in many people's eyes is a bit of an automotive abortion (like i'm looking at doing this weekend) usually comprising of a series body, cut down range rover chassis, coil springs, big engine, big tyres. They're a very grey area, but if it's only being used to play with they're fine, perfectly road legal unless you get silly. Something like that'll take you further than any 90 would. They're great for things like that.

Or a bobtail rangey, they're cheap, most get fairly battered and are treated just like toys and carry small price tags.

With the above, the Hybrid's tend to be nicely under a grand (the one i'm going to look at this weekend's going for £350 and only need the electrics sorting for an MOT) likewise with the range rovers.

:)

Likewise, you could get decent sj's/vitara's for the same sort of money which are tax and tested, also check out dyhatsu fourtraks, they seem alright off-road. You could probably pick up a decent disco for not much mullar either, I seem to remember when I was looking for a new 4x4 I could find them tax and tested between 600-1500, which looked like they'd be fun off-road.

Ah, almost forgot, definitely have a look at old range rovers, you can literally pick them up for pennies.

I'd not go with a disco, granted they're alright for what they're designed for - but as standard they suck from my experiences with them. They're long, have huge overhangs on the front and the back, you have to cut the arches out to fit any form of decently sized tyres on them, and they rust like a motherf**ker...

Actually, i'm gonna go against my better judgement and go with Joe there. But only if it's super cheap. And not full of holes.

But to do my bit for team leaf sprung; get a series of some description, SO much fun :D
