Playstation 3

Right I'm considering investing in a Playstation 3 but I wanted a little bit of information and stuff first,

What are the differences between the 60gb and the 40gb versions.

obviously not everyone has a HD television, so how do people with a normal television find it? obviously there's a difference but is it big enough to make it not really worth getting one until you have HD.

Is it backwards compatible with PS2 games, I assume not? but dunno.

People with both XBOX 360 and Playstation 3, how do they compare game play wise. run smoothly? big loading times? and all that malarcy.

BTW lol I'm not too lazy to go and look for myself, but you generally find that the people who write reviews on game sites are just there to slag them off and stuff so thought i'd ask you guys lol.

So just generally want a few reviews and opinions so I can decide whether to make the jump or not.

Cheers guyssss

PS3 is good, really quite, really smooth. When running in SD the home screen looks a little rough but when playing games it looks good. 60GB is not available no more so for the moment, the 40GB one is the only one to go for. But an 80GB one might be released in the UK soon and that will have backward compatibility. I have had a xbox360. with the earlier games, the xbox looks better but now the PS3 ones are looking better. PS3 though always runs alot smoother with higher fps. At the moment there are little good deals for the PS3, I got mine with 2 games for £310 whereas now its like £330 for 2 games. So in my opinion I would wait for a little while to get one so you get a good deal.

I heard its coming out on the 360 too >_< Would be a shame to get a ps3 solely for that purpose when it'll be out for both.

With regards to the screen resolutions. Up until recently the full HD image wasn't really up to par with standard definition, a 48" HD ready screen looked and still looks like utter crap, i wouldn't think of buying one when a Ray tube tv looks better. In our house we have a 46" full hd screen and if i'm being honest, whilst looking sharp sometimes, during gaming it usually doesn't look sharp because of all the jaggies on the screen... which is annoying coming from a pc gaming background. A 32" Standard definition tv always looked better than a HD one as the image was Roughly the same degree of sharpness (only jaggies aren't as obvious on a ray tube set). However, now full HD pictures have become available on screen as small as 36" on the commercial tv market (high resolutions on screens that size were reserved for pc monitors) the full HD picture has taken over in terms of quality.

My friend has both PS3 and 360 and i had to go round and have a little play. In terms of visual quality there is no clear winner... they're both about the same really and it depends on the game in terms of visual niceness. If your buying one or the other it certainly isn't a big enough difference to make you wish you'd bought the other for a better picture. Just look at which one has the games you'd most like to play and get that one.

Xbox is loud and the controller is awful lump of cack, and after playing both quite a bit Ps3 wins hands down in my opinion. Just a better console, plus you dont have to pay to play online! Whoop Whoop.

free online gaming sounds quite appealing... hmm if I see a good deal today i'll probly get one ahah

The Xbox 360 is a wicked machine but it just isn't as playable as the PS2 used to be if you know what I mean, the PS2 literally got played till it died but I bought the original X Box for Halo/Halo 2 and they were the only games I had for it and it hardly ever got played, I then traded it in and bought 360 which I bought Tony Hawks, SKATE and GTA4 for. but that just ended up being swapped for my brothers Wii, so I think i'm gonna give PS3 a chance lol

buy it from comet if you do. we offer a 3 or 5 year extended garuantee. which will cover all accidental damage and manufactoring defects. the standard cover doesnt usually cover accidental damage, which is most likely to happen. i havnt checked for the ps3, but at a guess the 3 year cover would be around 70quid. the most common argument adainst this is 'my house insurance covers it'. when in reality most will make you pay for the guy to come out and look at it, and make you pay to have it fixed before they give you any money. whereas with comet you can just go in store and say 'its broken' and they will fix it or give yo ua new one. unless we no longer sold that product in which case we would give you vouchers for however much you spent on it (so around 300quid) which you can then use on anything in store.

Its exclusive to PS3. No plans at all for an 360 version. The game actaully takes the mick out of the 360.

Really? Because it was announced by a konami representative last july that it was coming to the 360, in the same we they announced that sons of liberty would do for the original xbox when it came out a year after playstation release ;)

With the rising cost of games development it makes sense for developers to go multi-platform to try and re-gain the money they've spent.

I am so tempted to get one but its the money issue i could have it in 2 weeks time but is it worth the £300?

It really does depend on what games you like dude. Maybe even which controller you like as your going to be using it a lot while your playing. Graphically, theres practically nothing in it so just go with whichever one you like the look of more in terms of what sort of games you play.

Yeah, can't quite see where they ripped the quote from though. The website they said had the interview has no articles on it whatsoever. It'd be nice if it did come out for both, but not essential. My buddy will probably buy it and if its anything like when he bought uncharted he'll watch as i play it :S

I've read in a few places that games developers are actually getting a bit pissed off about having to make games for 360 as well as PS3 because its sort of stifling what they could do if they only had to design games for the PS3.

Also If you've got a student card for HMV

£270 with discount ;)

Sony shot themselves in the foot a bit with such a technology-rich console, the development costs for game studios to produce a game for the ps3 were huge. They've recently had to half the price of the source development kit so more exclusives should start being made for it now.
