smoke257
Hey, i had a quick search and couldent realy find much, but my try all freewheel keeps skiping every so often, and theres a creaking sound (might be my crank though). Just wondering if you think its proably dead or just in need of a good ol clean out. Its not very loud wich leads me to think theres allot of muck or grese in there. And i wanted to no if there easy to take apart and put togeather again, iv serviced a tensile before that was pritty easy but the bearings were in cages, is the same in the tryalls? and are they easy to put back togeather? Cheers Jon
Mark W
I can't remember what the bearing assembly's like, but if it's like the Tensile ones then it should be relatively straight forward. If it's not, have fun* Just remember there's another few pawls in there, so yeah, that'll just be a bit more hassle but it'll be fundamentally the same thing. As for the creaking, I'd imagine that'd be either BB or crank related. Just strip it all down, grease everywhere where there's metal-to-metal contact, and you should be able to eliminate the noise *You can put some grease on the inside of the bearing seats, to 'stick' the bearings into the freewheel. When it's reassembled, flush it through with GT-85/WD-40/whatever a few times to get rid of the grease.
CurtisRider
mega noobz question that is relevant here i guess: my tryall skips like f**k, its new so im guessing its bedding in? is that normal for them? should i do the the good old wd40 flush to get rid of the crappy grease? Mark W
I would, yeah, but freewheels don't really require much bedding in, in that they're simple as f**k, open-bearing, WYSIWYG components. And Try-Alls are dick.

Just out of curiousity, what is acctully happening when a freewheel is bedding it? Is it just the pawls wearing down abit to sit flush with the teeth or just the freewheel pushing all the grease out of the way or what? :S
Mark W
Mixture of both, to some extent. Also, bearings need to get seated into the races properly 'n' stuff.
