EranFuld
I had Magura HS33 installed but they didn't feel right so I switched to Avid BB7 Disc Brake - Mechanical 185-203mm '07. The Avid feel much "mushier" so now I am seriously considering changing back to the "Maggies". I would sure like to hear your comments guys. Thanks, -Eran

Just about to order mine Just take it to your local bike shop and get them to set it up. Check the pads. And rotor. (Maybe not rotor. But just look for dirt and grime. And clean it.) Adam_3
I run a bb7 185mm on the front and an hs33 at back, so far i can't really fault either. You need to keep tweaking/adjusting it (took me ages to get them right) until your happy with the way it feels! Adam
EranFuld
BB7........ Just about to order mine Just take it to your local bike shop and get them to set it up. Check the pads. And rotor. (Maybe not rotor. But just look for dirt and grime. And clean it.) In fact they are almost brand new: less than 1 months maybe that's the problem? (they don't have the grip yet). I find it hard to beleive it's dirt because I do not do natural and they are almost brand new. Thanks, -Eran I run a bb7 185mm on the front and an hs33 at back, so far i can't really fault either. Adam Actually I have set the pads using the adjustment dials (counter clockwise if I am not mistaking). but they still feel a bit weak and mushy. Any advice? -Eran

Simpson
Hate maguras... not being able to come to a stop without some awfull scream? Its alright when your riding trials but just day to day is a f**king skull ache
JoNnY__Mc
Maybe look at buying a stiffer cable? Something like an Odyssey Linear Slic cable for the front and back will do the job perfect and will feel nicer/lighter at the lever. Also what levers are you using? I quite liked my XTR lever when I ran my bb7 but I reckon an avid sd7 would feel equally as nice. I might have completelt missed the point, could also try to get both pads so they hit at the same time
El Cristoff
Its gotta be the lever, wHat lever aqre you using? Got a sd7 lever and adjusted the little red bit on top of the blade? That'll make it beter
Sabiot
I haven't tried maguras yet, but I'd like to. At this point I definately like disks more. Avid is a hell of a brand. Do maggies really screech all the time when you use them? I just thought it was from gaps and stuff where you're stopping with some force and the brakes are locked on. El Cristoff
If you have a rim grind, they will screech like a whore when used on the front.

When you have a grind, tar or a very soft pads on a smooth rim they do honk - its because of the pads vibrating in the housing. Some brakes are noisier than others, there are alot of different factors that affect it though. Because maguras are rim brakes they provide a more solid feeling hold when youre on one wheel with the brake locked, disks only hold the hub still so the spokes can flex a fair amount - on mods this isnt a problem but some people dont like it on stock where you have longer spokes to flex. adam 94
Ive got a maggie on the front at the moment and it makes the most screaching noise, get the the avid set up properly or try a smaller rotar.
uldis
i have bb7 on the front, xtr lever and proper linear cable - brake is amazing
James Shields
I used to run a maggieon the front, with raceline 04 lever? (correct me if i'm wrong ) and it was pretty powerful but as previously stated, with tar or soft pads to much noise, im now running a hope mono trial and to tell the truth, personally i think it sucks, i will most likely be investing in an avid bb7 due to the fact that when i rode my friends bike with a bb7, i loved the feel of the brake and they gave instant locking power - without the screech ! P.S he used an sd7 lever with a linear cable! cheers james(Y)
Chris Woodhouse
I would go with a bb7 over a Hs33 but everyone has a different opinion it will vary on what you are used to and sometimes what stile of riding you do.
bikeperson45
Have you tried the barrell adjuster on the lever?
EranFuld
hmm i will have to say magura hs33 but its whats best for you at the end of the day No I don't think so (see below): A little bit of tuning and then some more tuning and it seems like it's already much better. Thanks, -E Have you tried the barrell adjuster on the lever? Yes, in fact that was one of the problems; the other one was the simple fact that the lever it self was too far away from the handlebars, I've fixed that as well and voila! Already much better. however, I've been told it can take up to a few dozens of kilometers for the system to "get the grip". Thanks, -E Hate maguras... not being able to come to a stop without some awfull scream? Its alright when your riding trials but just day to day is a f**king skull ache Actually that sound is music to my ears; I beleive that it's our sonic TradeMark as Trials riders ) and that is why I wouldn't replace the rear brake to disc. However I will probably stay with a front BB7; I have managed to fix the problem... and it is indeed much better as a front brake. -E Maybe look at buying a stiffer cable? Something like an Odyssey Linear Slic cable for the front and back will do the job perfect and will feel nicer/lighter at the lever. Also what levers are you using? I might have completelt missed the point, could also try to get both pads so they hit at the same time Actaully I am using an Avid FR-5 (a very basic lever). and by the way that was one of the problems it's orignally setup very and I mean very far away from the handlebars, I've also set the "barrel" "thing" on the lever, so it would stop more at the begining of the pulll rather than later.... Thanks, -E
