Diz
Was just wondering if anyone had tried riding their stock with slick tyres? Was trying to find out if they'd work out lighter. Also, most of the riding i do is street and wondered if there'd be enough grip?
Joe_Elding
IN the dry would have better grip then normal tyres, in the wet wouldnt work for shitttt.
I-LikeMatchesDerFun
Stan Shaw uses a Try-all slick in his new Ozonys. Link Have know idea what a slick is like. There may be some info in the topc or you could ask Stan. Would agree with the advice above though. Hope this helps Steve
mafu26
if your using it for the back i guess it would feel more responsive when gapping and stuff because the tyre would distort/flex less than a tyre with big knobbles. but the difference might be so small you might not notice it... Ben John-Hynes
I use a very worn halo twin rain tyre on the front and the grip in the dry is amazing! It's very light and it performs as well as the other tyres that my friends use.
psycholist
Have a look for Maxxis Hookworm tyres if you want a purpose designed slick tyre in 2.5" width...
ogre
hookworms
Mark W
Hookworms are f**king godawful on BMX, so I doubt I'd ever really want to run one on a trials bike...
monkeyseemonkeydo
Plus the 26" versions weigh about 2kg each...
spode@thinkbikes
Weird, Bessel and I were having this exact conversation today. He's got a try all on the front, and just cut all the knobbles off. Those hookworms really are heavy...
ogre
i have a bald try all tyre you can have?
Mark W
The sidewall would almost definitely be total shit on that though.
Dekes
Plus the 26" versions weigh about 2kg each... they are actually slightly lighter than 2.5 mobsters/highrollers which everyone uses.
sapu
i was thinking about this issue also and i think a semi slick tire vould do great..
Trials Punk
I've used semi slicks before on the front, as most of them have crap sidewalls. For riding in the wet you don't need massive knobels on them, just need to be big enough for surface water to pass through them. If your running a slick theres no where for the water to go so hence less friction. Not sure what to suggest, maybe go for something the downhill riders use on hardpack stuff.
