Couple Of Questions From A New Guy

Hi guys as you know im new to this forum, I want to get back into the trials game and have some questions i would like to ask and it would be great for some of you to answer them for me.

First off is what rims and tyres would be a good start for me to look at?,

Next is What front forks are best to use suspension ones or not?

Is it wise to have the 3 gears on the front or would just the two rings be ok?

Last is i have a barracuda gecko frame, standard set up as regards to gears and parts. Apart from DMR V6 pedals, An planet 6 stem, Motocross style bars, downhill tyres, standard shimano hubs and rims but printy hard going ones. full 18 gears with trigger type shifters and standard front suspension forks nothing top

When i get a minute ill post some pics

Thanks

Gaz

Look at those for your wheelery and tyrey needs.

If you are planning on getting a trials frame,

i'd stay away from suspension as it would mess up the GEO of the frame, presonally i'd go for Zoo Pitbul '07 forks as they're mega strong!

Also, i'd use 1 chainring on the front, as it's lighter than 3 and there's less to go wrong.

:)

Hi mate thanks for the reply im sticknig with my gecko frame i think just want to upgrade it alittle without going mad,

Thinking of getting rid of the fork for some rigid ones nothing too flash just basic ones, then i what to get some hs33s front and rear.

Go rigid, in my experience suspension sucks up power.

Most bikes only have one ring at the front, but hawyes used 3 though, less to brake

hope i helped a weee bit

Thanks mate thanks great,

whats your view on brakes what type do you use, discs, vees or mags

I havent tried maguras yet but I've tried Vee's and I have dual hydro disks right now. Vees I didnt like because the pads were going too fast, like once a month and I was just riding my bike around at that point in time. Disks... oh my... I've had this bike for a year and I haven't had to adjust them or maintain them in any way and they only seem to work better than they did. I didn't believe the guy when I got them and I felt like they were kinda squishy and non responsive but the bike clerk told me that as I use them it'll get tighter. And boy did they ever. Some people don't like them because apparently they don't stop quickly and some don't because there is the risk of landing on the disk when doing something like say sidehops. But you know what, I'm lazy and I like not having to do much if anything to my brakes.

Although, hydro maguras (I think they all are hydro) are supposed to be awesome

PS: If you don't know the difference there are mechanical and hydrolic disk brakes. Mechanical brakes use stupid little pieces to make the brakes work, wires and such too I think. In time these stretch and your brakes won't work as well until you retighten them. Hydrolic uses a thin tube with a liquid in it. When you depress the brake lever it pushes the liquid and makes your brakes apply to your tire. Much more effective, responsive and less maintenance.

PPS: Go with disks, they look cooler :P

Thanks guys

After looking round ive thought about going for the mags hs33s,

Thinking of looking on ebay to see how mch a front and rear set are going for, Until then im going to get a new full set of pads for my vees,

Ive seen some in my local shop and they tell me its what most of the trials riders use, i cant remember what they are called but the are red ones
