grantallsop
Hi, Was just wondering what kind of paint is used on the adamant frames, will it be a powder coat? Need to no because i am thinking of stripping it. Also... When it has been stripped what do i use to stop the frame from rusting? Thanks ..Grant.. Ben John-Hynes
It won't rust because it's aluminium, a non-ferrous metal, containing no iron. not sure about stripping it, try nitromors?
JonCongreve
It's annodised (sp?) giving it a really tough finish, as i experienced when i sprayed my frame and had to sand it all down. Might be best to use nitromors (sp?) to strip to paint off chemically. Best way to stop rust would be to spray a few coats of laquer on if you're keeping it as a bare metal finish. Ben John-Hynes
Caustic soda for anodizing. So use oven cleaner, most use Mr. Muscle.
ogre
caustic soda will get the anodising off. be really careful with it though, 'cause it'll munch the alloy on your frame if you leave it to long, make sure threads/headset/dropouts are watched. otherwise, sandpaper + forever... grantallsop
So if the frames anodised then use something like mr muscle? and yeah i was planning on leaving the frame silver but keeping the adamant strip in black. Anyone no where i can get hold of caustic soda? Thanks. Edited June 8, 2008 by grantallsop

Ben John-Hynes
Does anyone know how long you have to leave oven cleaner on an anodised object for it to strip it?
Token
Mr Muscle removes anodising? Are you guys serious?

It's not anodised. If it was anodised, why would you use Nitromors? As has already been mentioned (as you should've learned before the age of 5), it's Aluminium, and isn't going to rust. Use Nitromors.
Greetings
It's not anodized. Normal paint remover will get it off really easily. I accidentally spilled some on my old frame which was an A1 and the paint came right off.
Luke Rainbird
On a vaguely related note - what's the best way to remove a powder coat? I'm assuming my best bet is to get it blasted?

Just buy 1 litre of the stuff, you can always strip more frames in future I reckon you could strip a frame with less than 250ml. Blasting is the best way to get powdercoating off, you can nitromors it but its hard work if the powdercoat is half decent.
