What Crankset?

Recommended Posts

Hiya guys and gals. Could anyone please help me, i need advice on what crankset to run. I want something that is stiff and reliable but also not too pricey.

Also, what gear ratio shall i run? I need something that will be good for high speed things but good enough for more skippy, technical, static stuff.

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dan.

you running a ffw or freehub? square taper or isis?

thats more gearing than crank arm, but shorter cranks make the gear feel harder but you can get a better sprint out of them. longer cranks give more leverage, making the gear feel softer and giving more power. as for actual cranks, try-all ones are expensive but light and incrediably strong. DO NOT get the echo forged cranks there around £50 and the threads die really fast (N) if you run a freehub, get middleburns if you can afford there freakin' awesome (Y) i'm running meta cranks right now and i'm really impressed with them lots of nifty features to save the threads (Y) and they feel really stiff and can take a beating :)

Middleburns get my vote here :)

Expensive but oh so worth it, they come up pretty cheap on here, best get yourself validated so you can buy some ;)

No option for ffw with burns though so you need a decent freehub (king or hope pro II) or a screw on hub with a freewheel.

If youre wanting to run ffw then the new trialtech cranks look pretty good, not heard any reviews yet but judging on the rest of the trialtech stuff they should be on the good side of awesome :D

For stock Im currently using 18/16 with 165 cranks, got a 15t to go on the back for when I get a bit more power back into my legs :)

No Idea on mod gearing but 18/12 is popular?
