Guest
I dont know if its just my school but a year ago they decded to move the GCSE year down to 9, it seemed pretty sesible as people have more time to do their GCSE's but after reciving last years results, they were much worse, so now today i had a science GCSE as part of 3 science GCSE's (tripple science) and at only 13/ 14 years of age do you think its a good idea to have them so early and without a chane to retake them in the next 2 years? Also forgot to add that this year we are also taking a ICT GCSE Edited June 5, 2008 by alextheferret

Seriously the bit that takes the longest is coursework, and since i thought they removed most of that its all theory. And theory for gcse is piss easy. By moving to year 9 they should start sixth form a year early and give two years for AS, or A2 level. That would actualy be useful.
Guest
Right, but the thing is we had to take our S.A.T.S's ayear early aswell which goes towards deciding if we can take foundation or higher so also now with less time being able to achive high on that less of us can get to our true potential as we can not achieve over a C on our GCSE's did that make sense? matt rushton
So do you leave after year 9?

Also forgot to add that this year we are also taking a ICT GCSE in my opinion its a good idea, makes it more spread out rather than like some people have 10 exams in one week etc. and also at 14 i was keen, id of revised, tried me hardest. by 16, i was lazy, drunk, and didnt really care. Rich J
Our school systems changed too. Doesnt effect me but does my brothers. They now do KS3 sats over years 7 and 8. GCSES over 9 and 10. Then do a one year course in something less school like. What that means i dont know. Something to give them a few life skills maybe. Deonn h
Yeh my school did that i think its good as id already got my full gcse`s in maths and english by year 10 , so its alot less pressure this year . So you can concentrate getting good results in the other subjects. Maybe not too good for people who struggle with school as they might just get frustrated covering the work again and again if they fail the first year , like what ive seen in a few people in my year. Tomm
I can't really see the point. A lot of people don't have the maturity to do GCSEs even at 16, let alone 14. If you're clever enough to do the exam early (and get a good grade), you should easily be able to cope with doing all your exams in the summer of year 11. Token
It's a really baaaad idea to do them so early. I done my maths Gcse in year 10. When I got to college I wanted to do physics which was fine because I had the grade, however, because I didn't have to do maths in year 11, I'd forgotten pretty much everything an was set way back in the class an subsequently dropped out because I just couldn't remember basic things. I'm 99% sure if I dont my Maths gcse in year 11 it'd be a different story, so if you get the oppurtunity to do the important gcses in year 11 then do it. Perhaps get the crappy unimportant ones out the way early on.
