Drummond
If the sole intention of this publication is to promote and give publicity to the sport of Biketrials then don't you think that 'posting' the magazines out to the customers is rather restricting that, as the people that will be buying them are the people that already know about and are interested in Biketrials? I believe the sport would gain much more publicity if it were to be sold as magazines such as MBUK are, in shops etc., around the country - this is because more people with little or no knowledge of Biketrials are being exposed to it, thus maximising pubicity... Just a thought, anyway . Cheers, Joe. Hey joe, I would love to have the mag go straight into WH Smith, supermarkets, newsagents, etc. Hell I'd love to hand it out for free, mailing it to every house hold in the UK to attract new people to the sport.... if you have the resources and contacts lets talk...? Otherwise it will have to start small and grow with time.... A trials publication can support the industry in many ways, offering affortable advertising for a target audience, coverage of riders looking to promote / attract sponsorship is another, features for mods riders and proper comp coverage are also missing from the current mags....... Cheers, Ian
F-Stop Junkie
To get into WH Smiths or Tescos takes a *lot* of time and effort. In order to do so, you've got to prove you're worth more to the retailer than one of their existing titles. That's hard enough to do if you're Future or EMAP, if you're a small publisher with a new magazine, it ain't going to happen. I think it took 18 months - 2 years for Singletrack to get into WH Smiths, and they're yet to get into Tescos!
Revolver
Someone brought up the topic of a tarty bikes magazine in NMC, but it just occured to me that it would be brilliant if tarty bikes stocked your magazine. It would be good for both of you!
Nick Manning
Care to come up with something better then? If the magazine's called tuk, its named after the act of sticking your arse out as far as you can to get up a wall sideways. The idea of calling it TUK has no relation to the manouver when you sidehop. It relates to the sport as in Trials UK. But BTUK ( Bike Trials UK) is much better. ben_travis
if you wanted a contributor, id be more than happy to do some stuff if you decide to pursue your goal. obviously, if your doing this magazine, my preference is that you would cover all areas of the UK as a minimum. The problem with MBUK is they generally cover the south, in fact i think they only know that north of sheffield exists when they go for a trip to fort william for the worlds, and even then, the coverage of trials is minimal. kind of sucks ass. I like the idea of a non-paper based magazine, where you had to make a payment to view the whole magazine online (pdf format). However, the problem is that this is likely people would end up sticking it up on here and folks would get to see it for free. decisions decisions. walker
Ben has a good point, and surely your not going to be able to cover the whole country without employing a couple of other reporters at different locations around the country. Also, i would love a hard paper magazine as opposed to a pdf online jobbie, something to read before bedtime and show to friends and family, its just so much more desirable reading a hard copy of a magazine than something on the internet. Diz
You could always encourage others on this forum or whatever to email photos/reviews of rides and locations. That way you'd be able to cover a wider area without actually having to go yourself.
