Sorebums
I'm getting more confident about getting up on the backwheel, but years of trying 'not to get up on the back wheel' are resticting my progress. Has anyone here tried suspending the front-end of their bike from a fixed point (garage ceiling, tree, playground swing frame?) so that they could get the feel of balancing on the back wheel? I imagine that you'd swap the problems of 'getting it up and stopping' for 'getting on the bike and no gyroscopic stability'. Maybe you'd need some side ropes to limit the balancing you'd need to do to just 'backwards and forwards' Anyone tried it and survived? kid creole
There's no reason to do that , it wont help you. Just practice normally like everyone else did.
Alex@Flawless Bikes
Get a mate to hold the front of you bike up with you on it so you can get a feel of what you should be doing and were balancing point is.
charlie >est<
LOL! Make custom forks. Make them super high.
spaceman
Just get your front wheel up on a ledge about 2-feet high and balance and try to hop. Worked for me.

This idea I like - I can use it down my local park where there are log tables of varying heights and I sounds less dangerous than hanging on too long and smacking my head on the garage floor. I know what I'll be doing tonight - followed by painkillers and a warm bath. I'll keep you posted when I crack it. Simon
chris H
Not to be rude but just keep pushing your self to the max with out useing props or people to hold the front Its pritty simple realy just kick hard back and catch your weight with the brake like doing a wheely realy then stoping it mid way it al keep helping you with were the center balance is and the feel with the front wheel up! Skoze
If you get on the bike, get a friend to help you and lean back up against a wall, then you'll find your balance point, and not risk looping out Matt
interval
you could try putting a rope trough your bars, not sure if it'd actually work... just a thought
txt2007
suspending the front wheel wouldn't help at all because you could have your weight anywhere and give you the false idea of where the balancing point is
Pashley26
I'm pretty sure anybody who had tried the "rope from the ceiling" trick wouldn't be here to tell you about it. As a secondary option try a toaster in the bath. Edited June 5, 2008 by ✠Pashley26✠
otaylor38
Why would you want to do that. There are much better ways of learning this without a rope to a ceiling lol. No affence it's pointless.

Sabiot
Must... not... be... grammar.... police.... BLARGH! The wheel on the string thing might work but, lately I've been trying either an endo and trying to pop the wheel up as the rear comes down or like has already been mentioned, roll towards an object pretty slow, lift your front wheel onto it, slam your brakes hard to kill any more momentum, balance for a moment, lean forward over the handlebars, lean back and lift the bars. You'll fall eventually, this I promise. Make it fun though. I jacked a shelf someone in my apartment was throwing out and put it on grass. Lemme tell you, the fear is greatly diminished when you practice on grass or something else that isnt as likely to spill your beans.
