monkeyseemonkeydo
Click me. Lines the rim (between the rim itself and your inner tube) to stop the spokes and rough bits of rim piercing the tube. Like this:

Ben H!
it's just like a role of tape that goes in the middle of the rim you can get any colour. it also protects the spokes from damaging the innertube & saves faffing about with insulation tape. and you can see it underneath the holes in the rim www.bmxultra.com/news/2007/crupi/rhythm5.jpg Edited May 29, 2008 by Czartrials

Luke Rainbird
Not necessarily? You don't have to use a special tape/strip, but in the same way you don't have to use electrical tape, or anything adhesive for that matter (though it may help keep the strip located for the valve hole if you have troubles Any old bit of tape, ribbon, inner tube etc can be used really, provided it helps protect from any rough or sharp protrusions that can get at your tube
Daborn Meister
But what's the point in different colour's if you can't even see it? Joe
Revolver
But what's the point in different colour's if you can't even see it? Joe hehe If you have a drilled rim or a cnc'd one, that has holes on it on the inside, then you can see it.
RossMcd
you can see it if your rims are drilled
Revolver
The yellow bit is the rim tape So if your bike was going to be a black and red bike, you could change it for red. It just makes the colour scheme more thorough. Its all about detail.

Muel
I use sellotape, lighter than insulation tape and nice and strong.
Sidehop Stuart
I had a fluroescent yellow paper bag and i cut it up into thin strips and put it as rim tape. Had a nice effect I've got a new paper bag now The other bag was old
