Ben Swales
QUOTE (banbury trials @ May 22 2008, 10:53 PM) * daddy long legs are the most poisonous spider not true, the daddy long legs is also known as the "harvestman" spider, but in fact it isnt a true spider as it only has one body segment (compared with a real spiders two). Thats the uk daddy long legs anyway, I think the americans have different spiders, but they are still not dangerous at all. i think what he meant to say is that the daddy longlegs spider (not native to the UK) has the most lethal venom known to man. luckily, it's fangs aren't strong enough to penetrate skin, so it's useless. That's what I've heard anyway. It could be an urban (rural?) myth. edit: the UK daddy lonlegs is the crane fly. harvestmen are something else. Diz
1: The average male has 11 erections a day, and 9 at night! 2: When a cat purrs it purrs in alpha waves, which are the same waves released by the brain during meditation. This is why stroking a cat is supposed to be relaxing. 3:Coffee beans come from a coffee cherry. There are two coffee beans per cherry and each coffee tree only yields approximately 1 pound (approx 500g) of coffee, despite this, coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world after oil. 4: The largest recorded real human penis is 13 inches...the smallets is 5/8 of an inch ( )...gutted! Dr. Nick Riviera
One of the ingredients of gunpowder is peanutsotassium nitrate however, Nitrogylcerine is used to treat angina. interestingly.. glycerol is an ingredient in nitroglycerine (obviously) which is a component of dynamite and you can derive glycerol from peanut oil. but glycerol is in all fats and oils so that's like saying that coke bottles are made of crude oil. Tomm
Octopuses Octopodes often escape even from supposedly secure tanks, due to their intelligence, problem solving skills, mobility and lack of rigid structure. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5cs-hPLq-E I didn't realise quite how freaky they were. Revolver
Apparently, because of how much motion an octupus' tentacles have, they aren't fully in control of them, so they move almost with a mind of their own. Also, because of how sensitive they are, an octopus can't put information picked up by the tentacles together. For example, a human could close their eyes, and with one hand feel bark, and the other hand a load of pines, and conclude that they're touching a pine tree. An octopus would feel the bark, and feel the pines, and if it were capable of thought, think, 'Whatever this tentacle is touching has bark, and whatever this tentacle is touching has pines.' They're not spacially aware of the tentacles either, so they can't relate the position of the tentacles to each other. the tentacles might touch each other, and it might think, 'Wtf, this tentacle feels a tentacle, somewhere out there is an octopus!' haha Lol, I seem to know a fair bit about the octopus
