Captain Scarlet
Same thing happened around my way, all my mates did trials and I really wanted to get into it, I comitted myself to it and bought a trials bike, gradually getting better and better.About 20 odd kids were into it, then all of a sudden everyone starting selling their bikes (all the rich kids who had to start off with the best bike they could buy). Now the area has 2 main riders, and even we don't ride as much as we used to, hopefully summer will create a lot more free time, but to get by we also meet up on rides.Change of scenery and ride with some other faces, its good getting out of your hometown every now and again. Phil H
It really was just drugs and booze that took everyone round here which was quite depressing. I bosted my ankle in 06 as well which put me out of action for a bit over a year, and really being f**ked over at college this year meant that I couldn't ride half as much as I wanted too let alone travel anywhere which was shite, i've got a good job so i've actually had money to travel then ended up having to buy loads of college crap Broke up from college on friday so i've got plenty of time to ride now bought some new cranks last week and ordering some more stuff when I get paid hopefully it's all goooood!Really isn't the same though now theres only 5 of us (well, 4 minus Dan the cripple ) it used to be like a massive group ride, everyone out 10 in the morning and not going home till 10/11 at night, now its either a more serious filming ride or a quick hour round the local spots.Ahh that is preety savage. Yeah I'll be out out of college in a bit after exams are over will try do some travelling then!Think yourself lucky there is 5 of you! I'd be happy with 1 haha.Phil

Mowgli
when i started riding in 1998 there were 4 or so of us and it was great but the same thing happened to me so after 3 years of riding i gave up. I didnt think anything of it untill i came to portsmouth uni and there were riders then i realised i should never have stopped. By the way i am another one of the guys in pompey, always up for a ride!

psycholist
I'll probably drive across Ireland this weekend to meet 2 others of the 5 or 6 trials riders in this country and hit Dublin ... I ride well over 90% of my trials on my own though.I find that with riding trials on your own you progress more slowly, but what you learn to do, you learn really well. The other issue is if you like big, dangerous lines, you're a lot safer if there's a group out, but that's definitely not my thing. I cycle for the physical and psychological challenge rather than for the adrenaline or the social aspect of it. It doesn't matter of there's a crowd watching or I'm completely on my own, it's all about finding difficult lines and getting them just right for my own pleasure.
