or are there other cheaper brands that do this same type of design? the only reason these skewers are so costly is cos the axle is ti?

EDIT:

just read Ad's post, how come that's the case? Are these allen skewers a bit flimsy or don't grip too well?

Yep, Shimano QRs are by far the best. Plus you can just nick em off old bikes. Hope QRs for example are totally rubbish - I relegated mine to my road bike so I could have the cheap Shimano ones on my trials bike...

Another vote for the shimano!

The one i run looks gash but it's butch and doesn't budge, which is good :)

I used a hope for about a day, came loose, I tightened it up, but it jammed, wouldn't come undone or do up, just ate itself and had to be removed by the care of a hacksaw.

The idea of the bolts does look pretty appealing though.

Got a spare brand new different design QR if your interested £3 posted? Just twist one end to apply pressure, don't see why it wouldn't apply the same... or maybe a little less clamping pressure as the allen key ones you mentioned.

I can't comment on the control tech as I've not used them, but I did use some allen bolt skewers years ago, they were cheap and showed it. I had problems with the rear one clamping tight enough. I'd tighten it up, and when I would back wheel a wall, the wheel would fall out :(

But these were cheap, so it's not really surprising.

In all fairness, I rate Shimano quick release over anything (Y)

in the world of roadie geeks the allen key ones are called 'Track Skewers'

and i think you can get some for about £10

but

SHIMANO CHEEPY ONES ARE THE BEST. NUFF SED.
