Quiet a controversial(sp) issue. it is, for deffinate going back up to class b, so what do you think. Waste of tax payers money and police time? Or do you really think it will help tackle petty crime and stop people getting onto harder drugs through the use of cannabis?

Be nice to hear some late night rants/discussions on the subject.

won't make a difference. regardless of classification weed has that softcore-party-drug image. i know it wont make a differance to any of my mates. meh not really my problem though.

when they gunna clamp down on alcohol :P 'cause that causes depression + all the other evil jazz that chronic abuse of anything causes. also what happens to sales in stuff like bakery crap + all your other munchie fodder. the corner shops are gunna get pwned..

I know people enjoy it. But there are 3 people that I know very well an they've smoked it for a long time, one being a guy who got out of jail two years for murder an always complains of either being very hot or very cold. Another who I work with everytime I'm in work, he's manicly depressed and has an obsession with knives, frequently makes comments about coming into work an cutting up managers, he says he needs weed to chill out but I think it's making him schizophrenic. The last guy is someone who I've been good friends with through school, he's smoked it for about 5-6 years now an he has to really concentrate to hold a conversation an he openly admits that his short term memory has been really badly affected (for example he's a chef, he takes a look at a food order, by the time hes turned round to cook it, he's forgotten what the order was).

I know you can bash on about how it's apparently good for you, but I've seen first hand it's not good an having less people doing it is only a good thing.

I had an excellent friend who smoked weed and he had a phenomenal talent for music, but he had a kind of OCD where he must check all the doors he's locked to make sure he's locked them. Things like pulling the car door handles different amounts each time helped him remember he did it, but occasionally he said he'd wake up in the middle of the night and have to go and check the car.

Can I just point out that making it Grade B will have more of an affect as a deterrant to kids. You may think 'Yeah kids dont care anymore'. But being taken home by a Police Officer an then having the Officer tell your parents what you've been doing might kick a fair few kids up the backside, in comparison at the moment, kids get a stop an search ticket an have their weed confiscated without their parents even having a clue that they've ran into the law. Because it's getting easier to get weed an the strength of skunk is getting higher the governments got to be seen to be doing something about it. You can't just go an lock everyone up, you can make the law more stringent though which will hopefully tighten everything up abit more an scare the younger generation of generally getting really hooked on it.

you need to consider the steriotypes of kids your looking at. but at a guess a good chunk of kids who smoke pot have stoner parents/ones that don't give a shit, so getting caughts not a problem, and for everyone else, there gunna hide what there doing anyway, the price is the biggest put off, and at a crack when it goes up a grade, so will the price, thats the only obvious affect i imagine making a difference.

Actully cannabis has little effect on lung capicity, its the tobacco that f**ks that up.

Homegrown  Fact

he has a good life your mate does.

Lets watch how he turns out in later life eh?

It's more that I don't understand why he continues his normal lifestyle like he has for 11+ years if he feels the need to get f**ked up to make it better? I know it's hard to say what his use is like (The occassional line on a night out at a weekend compared to getting battered off crack 24/7), but from the way the post was written it implies he uses drugs pretty frequently. If so, why? I don't get why people need to get totally f**ked to enjoy themselves, personally. I know it's fun to get pissed sometimes and just not give a shit about stuff, but that doesn't really happen all that often for me, and I'd rather just do stuff that I enjoy doing or that I feel is rewarding rather than just getting battered?

Much the same as alcohol, I haven't really met many people that being stoned/wasted has "enhanced" (Shitty word) in any way.

I used to be a very heavy stoner, there were always 4 of us smoking an eigth (£20) a night for a couple of years, one had a serious panic attack whilst stoned and has never touched it since, one got diagnosed with schitzophrenia - and it's no fun at all, he's a different person now, and one who is doing really, really well in a band with 3 other mates who've also been toking for years... Make of that what you will.

But as far as the link between cannabis and schitzophreia, depression and other such illnesses goes, I don't think for a second it actually causes these disorders, smoking weed is definitely a catalyst but you have to genetically predisposed to these conditions to suffer them from toking.

As for my smoking, I kinda realised I was spending £40+ a week on weed I would mostly smoke by myself, just to feel 'normal', so I cut it right down to a treat basis.

But you cannot beat, middle of summer, red hot day, sat under a shady tree, with a nice spliff and a few mates. So I don't ever intend to draw a line in the sand and say "no more." because it's just so enjoyable :)

Weed has been tossed between class C and B for years, for people like me, the consiquences are no different now it's a class B. It won't make ant difference to any stoner at all.

For me personally, I have smoked alot of it it for about 2 years, and I don't think it has affected me. Sure, my lung capacity might have reduced, but it's not stopping me from doing the things I enjoy. As to the argument that we immediately must be stoned to enjoy life, I think it's a rather simple opinion for a complex problem, there are some times where I think, hey - if I was stoned this would be even better! But at the same time that doesn't mean I can't enjoy anything without being under the influence. I think marijuana has a bad reputation for promoting lazyness and weak personality (which is true in some circumstances), but for me it doesn't have any negative effects on my work. I often find it sparks increased attention span and creativity for some things I do. My habit has had little effect on my homelife, and I continue to get along great with my parents.

The reclassification won't affect me, and if I'm honest I doubt it will reduce the amount of people who will do it, and currently do it. And at the other end of the scale I'm ambivalent about the 'legalisation' stance on cannabis, either way, it won't make any difference on the way I continue to do things.

Reclassifying it won't really stop most people using it or trying it. I didn't care if it was a Class B drug when i started it,. What actually happens if you are caught with it? I know that being caught with Class A's you can get away with as little as a £60 fine which happened to my housemate (1 gram, 1st time). As for the whole mental effects from personal experience it did mess me up a bit towards the end, i started having some form of panic attacks and 'down' days which did start to worry me but since giving up smoking it these have pretty much stopped. I thin my opinion of cannabis has changed alot from when i was a little younger, i always thought i was cool and that getting stoned allowed me to enjoy things more but in actual fact it didn't.

There's nothing wrong with doing anything within reason. It's people who end up deserting every interest in their life to smoke weed who ruin themselves.. Smoking it occasionally won't do you any harm. The only reason it was reclassified is because of tabloid pressure, the governments own board of advisors who were hired to research the issue even recommended against reclassification.

Moving the drug back up to class B is purely to gain support politically. It's got nothing to do with how harmful it is.

As to the argument that we immediately must be stoned to enjoy life,

That wasn't really what I was getting at. I was more refering to how people do certain things which they'd only do whilst stoned as they find them enjoyable in that state only, if you see what I mean? Like I know people who get stoned and just go and sit in a van in a carpark and just stare at cars. I don't really get the appeal of that. Similarly, other people who just go to someone's house, sit around, get blazed and that's pretty much it. A friend of mine who rides (Who was getting ridiculously good, ridiculously fast) just stays at home all day now to get lean, and we hardly ever see him. He used to be out all day every day, and now it's amazing when he does turn up because it's so unexpected. You ask him where he's been and what he's been up to, and he just says "X-Box, innit". Just stuff like that, really. I don't really get the point.

I'm not saying all drugs are bad, or that if you take drugs you're a bad person, but the way people get so ridiculously caught up in them seems shitty.

I used to get stoned and sync Floyd albums up to films. I still remember my mate hiding behind the couch while Echoes played with the last chapter of 2001 Space Odyssey, only popping his hand up when he wanted another smoke. The begining of Donnie Daro synched up with Dar Side of the Moon was another good one.

Good times
