Homemade Tensior

Z o o !!

Recommended Posts

Hello, recently i have had a few problems setting up my back wheel in my mod, i can get the chain tension perfect but the wheel always ends up further to the left, so i made a tensior so i dont have to worry about getting chain tension and the wheel in straight, now i can aline the wheel straight and tighten it up and the chain tension will be mint.

Heres some photos ( not very good quality sorry off my phone)

I made it using a coat hanger as a guide, a hacksaw blade to keep the tension and a hand made aliminium L shape bracket. piss of pie to make, going to tidy it up a bit soon, any other homemade parts out on the forum ?

There also seems to be a huge satisfaction of using a part that you've made yourself too.

owen made a tensioner using a old spoke i believe ,im sure he'll explain later.

I tried that, it was shite, it was jubilie clipped to the frame and kept pinging off when I pedalled backwards.

This looks cool, well down mate. The legnth of the thing looks like a bit of an overkill thought.

Indeed i did! I might put one on for tomorrow, just so you can all be amazed at my super cool tensioner!

If you land on your tensioner, is it just the saw blade you will need to replace? As the theory behind mine was that i dont care if i land on the spoke, as itl bend, then i just bend it back, if it snaps, i got about 200 spokes in my garage.

Yours looks better designed than mine though! Is it loud, or does it make a noise at all?

Owen

Edit: Muel, bend the end of the spoke up, so you can pedal backwards aswell, live in a v shape at the end. Mine occasionally popped off, but it istn really the end of the world when it does, just put it back on!

maaaate....that looks exactly like mine!

pictured here is one i made for steve.... http://www.trials-forum.co.uk/forum/index....=105132&hl=

see you mentioned that it's quite noisy- i changed from hacksaw blades (snapped a few times, just carry a spare (Y)) to titanium...! It means you can bend the end up slightly like a ski, and it becomes ALOT quieter....

also cut the coat hangar at an angle rather than at 90 degrees and it seems to be much stronger (Y)

good job though!

just use a half link ...

:giggle:

Eitherway, looks good dude, I find my rear set up annoying sometimes when tryign to get good tension, the wheel square in the frame and still within the limits of setting the brake up well. Might give this a go!
