Nathan Woodley
i've been watching a few videos and noticed that the riders leading foot tends to be on the outside when they side hopmy leading foot is my left, and i side hop to the left because it feels more comfortabledoes it matter what way i go?i mean are there any advantages of going the other way?cheers nathan
forteh
Im left foot forward and sidehop to the left aswell, can sidehop to the right but not as high. I dont think it really makes a huge difference apart from you maybe cant get quite as close to the wall like you can when wheelswapping Edited April 30, 2008 by forteh
Ladd
I have recently changed feet i am right footed and sidehopped to my right now i sidehop to the left with my right foot plus points your buddy tucks naturally that way and sidehopin the other way is very had to tuck watch a vid off neil tunni he does it the same way as you and i think i heard he is finding it very hard to go any bigger because tucking issues. If you dont want to hit the 40-50'' sidehopping stay as you are now, when i changed feet i couldnt even sidehop a curb 3 days later i was doing 5 pallets it doesnt take long to change feet its just getting used to it for a couple off days it shouldnt take no longer than 3 days to change feet, now im sidehopping highher and bigger than i ever could now i changed feet.Hope This Helps,Mike. MikeCottTrials
that fact is it is better to go away from your lead foot (easier to tuck, dont hit your foot on the way up, etc) but it is very hard to change. You'll probably get really frustrated and be tempted to give up but just keep at it and eventually itl just start feeling right

Was a bit awkward at first, but after a few attempts it clicked.Cheers

Dave Anscombe
I go right foot forward and side hopt to the left....if you dont quite land a side hop this way at least you can fall to pedal and stay safe.....unlike the right foot forward and side hop to the right if you dont make it its more likely that your going to hit the deck hard.......Try to side hop to both sides it makes sections in comps and stuff thatlittle bit easiermake any sence ? im shure some one can clear it up a little better for you Dave x
spode@thinkbikes
If you watch Rowan's latest video, you'll notice he sidehops the same wall, both ways. I find I'm pretty close height wise, from left or right. Rowan's sentiment summed it up for me: "sometimes I forget which way is my strongest". I imagine eventually there will be a point where your weaker direction will hold you back. But I don't see the harm in developing both ways. It's only hard changing directions because you pretty much have to re-learn it. But it's quicker than learning it for the first time But the sooner you do that, the better.
Dan6061
I'm left foot, and sidehop to the left. Just feels more comfortable.I try it the 'proper' way, and just end up twisting and going up to front. Took me long enough to get a decent height with my sidehops, so I don't wanna learn all over again...

Every now and again just try them and you'll be surprised.

Lokoxx
Well, I go with the left pedal fowards, and I sidehop to the left....many people say that I need to change mi side of sidehopping, and all that stuff, but it`s not necessary. The way you sidehop is not going to make you sidehop lower than sidehopping to your other side..Watch Neil Tunnicliffe, he sidehops to the left and goes with the left pedal foward...and does he have any problem sidehopping? NO!So don`t worry about that, just continue sidehopping as you do and enjoy!Lokoxx
