cai
Hey, after noticing the Echo/VP bb I brought of Tarty no to long ago is bent I need a new one.My Zoo!'s a little heavy - and the Viz bb would save like 70g.But how much weaker are they? As my broken foot was due to an Onza bb snapage (I'm not spending 2-3 months away from biking again ) so I'm a little frightened by the 'hollow axel' as apposed to a 'solod axel'.What do you think? Has anyone snapped or bent one of these before, or had any problems?Btw heres a link and a pic;link

cai
Rob, by 'on its way out' do you mean the bearings are going? Or its like creaking and falling apart?

Sponge
Honestly, Shimano UN53s are by far the best square taper BBs. I swear by them, and not by the generic stuff churned out by VP, Viz, Onza, EchoThe plastic non-drive cup on the Shimanos is also a nice idea. Saves weight, and it's not so harmful for your frame threads. Plus you can afford to tighten it like a mooother without worrying too much about stripping
Ben John-Hynes
Honestly, Shimano UN53s are by far the best square taper BBs.I just bent mine after a few months.Keep an eye out for a Shimano UN52, i had one and it lasted an age. They don't make them anymore but there may be a few floating about on Ebay and such like.
