jamesa
Hi my name is james and i am new to this forum.I am just wondering if i am one of the oldest people to start trials at a grand age of 39 well nearly 40 !I have been riding bmx ( to the amusement of the local kids) and downhill mountain bikes for the last 27 years and now i have a sudden interest in trials.as I feel that if i dont do it now, i will regret it.It could just be a mid life crisis i suppose , Instead of buying a little sports car i thought i would get a trials bike instead lol
stritm0nkey
i have a friend who is forty and still kills everybody with oldschool tricks nobody else does. if your physical condition is good and you have some experience with bikes, i think you can. obviously the key point is the physical condition. take good care of your body
spaceman
obviously the key point is the physical condition. take good care of your body Especially your back. I have 2 friends who have been riding trials for over 10 years, now they're approaching 30. They have back problems. One of them has slipped disc. But IMO, there's no such thing as being too old to start something. I hope you enjoy trials! wanna be trials rider
Especially your back. I have 2 friends who have been riding trials for over 10 years, now they're approaching 30. They have back problems. One of them has slipped disc. But IMO, there's no such thing as being too old to start something. I hope you enjoy trials!hello bud i'm 31(just gone tuesday),married with 2 kids(that makes me feel 40 sometimes!!!!)and have been ridin trials bout 3-4 month.i've ridden bikes for roughly 14years,still a little overweight though!!!!,but since trials i am actually loosing the pounds its a bloody good full body work out!!! who cares what age you are?? if it doesnt bother you then stuff everyone else.when im out on the bike im in my "special little place" so i dont even notice anyone looking at me!! ive had no probs as of yet just bloody swollen bruised shins and the odd jarred elbows age should not be an issue (i think i am the oldest on the north east coast whitley tynemouth area!!!!) happy riding if you ever fancy comin up to this neck of the woods give is a bell

chris H
Trials needs more riders so for the age part it realy is good showing that even the older generation want to do it not just young guns!Keep the sport alive mate and i hope the best for you
Simpson
if your physical condition is goodI wouldn't say you need amazing physical ability, i know i cant run 100 metres and smoke and drink way too often than i should! hahaha but yea trials is a great sport, the main things I'd just check is that your in it for the right reasons. If you want a laugh out with some fantastic (probably younger) riders than do it, make sure you get in a gang of older riders and just relax and enjoy it! I know im never going to be a massive rider but i just love being out enjoying myself. As said before it puts me in a "special place?I dont worry about what anyone else thinks, exam stress, parents being idiots, girlfriend troubles, whatever just helps me to take a step back, kick back and enjoy, if you enjoy yourself everytime you step out on your bike then do it. It takes a lot of dedication and bike fixing just to understand the basics though

Meccanoman
I got talked into competing. A come back at 39!!Thats Great dude - nice one. I got my first trials bike end of last summer, at aged 36. I was down the local skate park last week and whilst standing waiting to drop in, one of the young boarders looked up at me and said "hey you've gotten better" made my day! Do get funny looks from some of the other parents sometimes though. But I'm loving it - not the funy looks now, the riding, can't believe how fast the hours go by once I get on the bike...CheersMek

craigjames
i think its awesome that such a small minority sport is attracting such a wide age range of new riders! shows how easily accesible the sport is and the fact you dont need a huge amount of money or anywhere specific to ride to start up.when i started over 18months ago now, i thought i was old at 21 to be starting! keep it up! show the younguns how to do it
Joe@Onza
I know I'm only 22 but I feel sometimes as though its something I should have done years ago, But I just knocked together a 2003 T-Pro a couple of weeks ago and loving it. Thinking about posting my first 4 back hops as a bit of a joke but you know, Might get ridiculed.Edit: I just put the wrong age down, Thought I was 23 for a bit. :$ Edited April 28, 2008 by Joe@Onza
