Nuke Bowel
Right, been driving with my tiny number plate as in my avatar for 2 months now, got stopped today for it.I have a bigger one in my windscreen like simon but they said that's no good..So yerr, they have booked me £30. But I can take it to cought, where do I stand?I was lead to believe that having a defect/no front plate is a secondary offence where there has to be something else wrong with my car for them to book me.I have also been told that you can display a bigger plate in the windscreen, like Simon has..Pleas explain and help me clear things up x
CurtisRider
30 quid or court? jeeez you know you should be running a proper size plate, so don't be pathetic and grumble at not even half a days pay
Rob_P
You can get fined £30 for a numberplate that is smaller than the law states. I know this because I got pulled for my motorbike plate once, it was on one line instead of two.If the plate is too small I guess it makes it harder for the police, other drivers and speed cameras to pick it up.I doubt you'll get far in court, just let it go and sort it out. Dan6061
Maybe the one in the window was hard to see?As long as you haven't got any points aswell as the fine, just pay up and sort it out.
Danny
Go to court. Get a bigger fine. Win win all round.Just get a proper plate. Having a plate in your window has never ever been legal.Simon now has a proper plate since he was pulled.

tipsy Jock
Same as above, you took a chance, got caught and got fined. Get over it.
Simon
I got a VDRF or something, Vehicle Defect Rectification Form, which basically meant i didn't get the 30 quid fine, and instead had to put the plate back on.The only way you can get around it, is if your car doesn't have the correct fittings for the legal uk number plate, but this only applies to import vehicles and is very rare to find, as they usually just come in 6" x 13.5" which is what i've now got on front and is perfectly legal.
