don't forget to buy every little thing you'll need because you'll get so far in and realise you havnt bought thermal paste then be screwed.

Computer building is easy, its diagnosing a DOA (dead on arrival) part thats not. Built a few now, latest was my housemates with watercooling and all that jazz. That was easily the most fun and switchin it on to see the fluid glow and fly round the tubing was great.

Never bother with anti static myself, just touch the unpainted section of the case to ground myself and carry on with the build. Never fried a component through static.

Just make sure that everything you buy is compatible.

Check the memory speeds the motherboard can take (DDR2, DDR3 etc) Make sure the socket of the CPU matches the one on the board etc. Put one together yourself on say Scan.co.uk, screen print the basket and post it on here.

Built 3 computers from scratch now, gonna water cool it one day I think. 2 loops, one for the CPU and one for the GPU

Building computers is a lot easier than most people think. Thankfully however, people don't want to try it, thats why i've been paid to build loads now :giggle:

P.S Like Krisboats, i've never had a problem with static

As long as you've got all the right bits, it's dead easy. Little more than just building a lego set that only has about 8 pieces :P

The only thing you can do majorly wrong is to do the CPU heatsink/fan wrong - I.e. squash the CPU or use too much/too little thermal paste etc. But there are tutorials on the internet for that sort of thing. It's probably best if you can find a mate who's done it before who can just watch and check you've done everything OK.
