I havnt read the whole topic and all the pages but i get the jist, and ben is totally right And so is the scientist chap.

You say your taking this as a gap year and then youll go back to college and get stuck back into work and do well yeah? but what if you dont? from what i can make out you failed your first year and your failing your 2nd and thats why your doing this. Its obvious if you go back again the same will happen and you will fail.

Im 18 now and i went to college when i left school to do alevels and hated it, i just didnt want to be there and as a result i failed, because i didnt want to believe i was failing untill results day i ended up going on to a btec course in engineering because engineering was what i wanted to do all along but id left it so late that course was the only thing i could do. Now i will be finishing that year and going onto a apprenticeship because it suits me so much better than college. Im not doing amazing at the btec but im doing pritty good but could do a hell of alot better the reason am not is because all through the year i wish i was in an apprenticeship. You can think right im going to change things and do well at college and get there and not be motivated as its not you, if you havnt got the motivation you wont do well no matter how hard you try.

The point im making is if your not cut out for college and you dont have the motivation and want to pass it you will fail everytime no matter how many times you retake it. Think seriously what you want to do and dont waste a year because every year that goes by is a qualification gone that you could of had. If work based learning suits you do that dont convince yourself you will do good at college again. If you want to be a car mechanic get yourself on a apprenticeship now as the longer you prolong it the less chance anyone will take you on. A college course in mechanicing will proberly end up the same with you thinking it will be like a job but in theory it will be lots of coursework and exams and also hands on aswell it wont be what you think it will be and youll fail again.

If you go for a job and they ask about things and you say i failed 2 years so went and got a job they will just think youtook the easy way out like you are doing. If you said i failed 2 years and relised college isnt me im not that kind of person so i decided work based learning suited me to the ground so i got an apprenticeship turn things around worked hard got the experience and now i want to go places as im motivated in what im doing and im suceeding.

At this age you wont to sort things out now and get your career rolling not prolong it thinking ill sort it out in a year when eventually youll get to your 20's ect and be looking back regretting just like scientist is.

edit: your profile says your 16? but im sure i read your at college in a 2nd year well anyway, if your even thinking about getting an apprenticeship you need to do it now! as soon as you get past 18 companys won't want you really they want 16-18 year olds. You will find it hard to get an apprenticeship in the trades or anything normally comeing out of school. BUt at 19 it will be sooo hard im telling you, and as soon as they ask what youve done since school you will won't stand a chance unless your good at talking and wangleing things to seem good some how.

But i want do the job, i'll enjoy it.

But yuo need to create a career for yourself not just do something because you enjoy it and think it be right ill sort a job out that will take me places later.

I havnt read all nine pages but i think near everyone bar the odd comments have all said dont go for the job correct? does that not mean anything to you or make you think shit may be they are right?

Right i hate saying stuff like this an ill take it down later prob, cos its quite personal

Case Study: Sisters boyfriend

- Mum left him at 14 home alone with no money, only affording tinned food an stuff

- Started work in a supermarket

- Worked f**king hard to get media qualifications

BUT, everyone wants experience and the only experience you can get is from working for free, so he's in a f**ked up catch 22, and at 21years old hes pretty f**ked, becuase he can't afford to ever break the cycle....

Dunno what im getting at but youve been given a massive opportinty, by having a family which is prepared to help you out, feed you home you etc. and your just going to waste it all by working in a bike shop. If things are f**ked up and you need money, then hell yea! But dont just bumm out yet...

Saying that your not going to listen to shit so youv'e wasted peoples time here
