MadManMike
Right every so often (increasingly often now) my screen goes funny, yellow and purple squares that flicker and the PC freezes. It's been doing it randomly, but now lasts about 5 minutes.I've cleaned out all the dust from the fan and cleaned it up generally, and now have resorted to leaving the side off and blasting a big 12" fan into it...Since typing this message it's been ok, however a long term solution the fan is not I'm 995 sure it's the gfx card overheating, just wanted other opinions! If so, anyone got a spare one laying about I could buy? I'm uber skint so nothing flash!
Ash-Kennard
when this happens try turning your screen off, then back on, works when my screen goes funny
Hendrix
hmm. It may be worth buying a new fan, and just cutting a hole in the side of your PC. Mine has one at the top, and one on the side, and nothing overheats ever.Or, take the side panel off and see how hot it gets? and if it stays cool that way
MadManMike
I had the side off to blast cold air in using my big floorstander, it didn't help It's not the monitor, because the PC beeps once and then freezes.New gfx card time I think! MadManMike
Only does it when I go on graphics intense websites or games...Anyone confirm its the gfx card? It seems like it to me.
Peperami
Yep sounds like it. Mine crashes when the gfx card overheats... makes the beeps though.
forteh
Ive recently been suffering with graphical anomalies with my twin 7900 gs sli setup, most particularly in assassins creed and I tried everything to try and sort it with no joy Took one of the cards out to see if its likely to be heat related and all the problems have disssapeared As it is assassins creed runs maxed out on one 7900gs just fine so now I have a spare 7900gs, wanna buy one? Given that they are £60/70 new, probably not Unless you are selling it very cheap by any miracle!
Tomm
You can get rubbish AGP cards for well under £20. Any of which will be fine if you don't want to play games
Muel
I have a Nvidia geforce 4 128mb thing, and it runs stuff like san andreas and need for speed underground 2 well enough.
Hendrix
It doesn't work on those games for me Just does awesome quality movies see
MadManMike
Anyone got / used one of these?http://buytech.co.uk/product.php?productid=114989Seems crazy cheap for a gfx card... I know it's not super-spec, but it's better than my dead one (When it was working I mean).Krisboats sent me a couple but unfortunately they didn't work, so I decided £16 isn't much to buy one brand new, should be able to order it next week
Tomm
I was going to say that you should be able to get a cheap graphics card for well under £20. That one, however, won't work, because it's PCI-e and I'm pretty sure you'll need AGP (or 'normal' PCI). Normal PCI cards are now rare so they're actually relatively expensive, as well as being rubbish and old. So don't get one of them. Something like this will be 20x faster than that thing you have in there at the moment http://microdirect.co.uk/(28735)ATi-Radeon...MB-AGP-OEM.aspx
MadManMike
Even cheaper!I got mixed up with my links, the one I meant to post was AGP, but was £17 so I think I'll go for the one you posted anyway, seeing as I have -£2,000 to my name lolThanks Tomm
Greetings
I had similar problems, the reason was damaged graphics RAM. Needed a new card
