NVWOCI WVS
I'm making a set of extenders for Biddle, and if they're a succes would anyone else be interested in having a pair made?I'll get photo's of the pair I'm making up when they're done, I can realisticaly add upto 40mm per side. (80mm total) I reckon. They will be turned by hand from hardwood and simply wedge into the end of the bars (nice and snug) and have the grips over the top.Basically this is a topic to see how much interest there would be in them, I could probably knock them out for around £4 posted per pair...watch this space! NVWOCI WVS
Get some pics! and ill have a set. Can send you down some metal if you have the lathe for it.......I do have acces to alu, and a metal lathe, but that's a lot of hassle to be honest, would be a lot easier in wood, and they should do the job fine in theory! RossMcd
the wood might warp when it gets wet EDIT: then it would get a tighter grip of the bars lol. im such a plank Edited April 16, 2008 by RossMcd

Muel
It would have to be a near perfect fit, so you would need the actual bars they are being made for.I'm not convinced it will work anyway, with it being wood it could easily compress and work loose in the bar. Muel
let's see how the prototypes turn out Thought about using a sliding wedge system instead? Like and old quill type stem? Then they'd fit in almost any bar.
ben_travis
Sorry to rain on your parade, however it would probably be easier / cheaper for someone to do similar to what i have done wth my monty bars.get some dowel ( i used 20mm or something similar), cut it to length (i used two inches), then hammer it into the end o the bar up until half way in.then get some masking tape to make up the difference between the bar and the dowel.Works a treat, and you have bar bungs and wider bars as one

David Biddle™
Some of us really can't be arsed though. I'd happily Sam to make me some, provided they worked safely.Well as Sam said he will be making me a set. So ill get some pictures of the bar extenders fitted in the bars on and off the bike and give them a good bashing to see what punishment they can take. Also will be trying them through most stlyes of riding (skatepark/street/comp and naturel) and ill try get some footage of me using them in these types or riding. At the end of it all ill put a large review about how they feel and ect after a set period of time of using them.Cheers again sam Biddle

Matthew62
By far the best Monty bar extenders i've seen are Fred Grillets. Great idea, pretty tricky to do yourself if you're not experienced with a metal lathe - but thse things were in for good and were actually secured once in like those extending bar bungs. But i guess wood will still cut it.

Muel
Worked perfectly for me. i used abit of wood for a budgee cage lol.I would have done that, but I did have my doubts, and also I never got to try it out. I started to make some prototype bar ends a few years ago because I had some round pieces of rubber from an old set of Manitou elastoma forks I snapped, I was about to get the end bit machined when I realised that my bars were to thick, and the rubber didn't fit in, I spotted them on the side the other day and it got me thinking, so I checked and they fitted the monty bars really well, so I drilled a couple of pieces of wood to fit a bolt inside including the head, then stuck the rubber, a washer and a nut on the end, and they work fine now.I want them wider now though. They're 28.5 inches and the extenders are as stiff as hell, so I reckon I could go at least another inch either side.

Muel
ive got some old bits of zoo bars in my shedcould i just hammer them into my bars somehow?Hammer a piece of wood inside them, then hammer that inside the bars. You may need to sand them down until they'll go in.
