J Trials 31
So as the topics say which is the best choice to use on a mod.
spartan
I use a 160 on the front of my stock. I have a juicy 7 which i just bought last week and sucks even more then my old brake. But as far as i know 160-190 is the size most people use. 203 on the front would be too much i think. JT!
Depends what brake. If you looking into a hope mono trial don't touch the 203! I have a 180, but i think a 160 would have done.My vote goes to 180.
J Trials 31
Hey what's up Spartan! Nice, to see a familiar face on here. Not British I mean. Yeah, if I got anything it would be a Hope mono trial. I don't even think they make a Hope 203mm do they? I know you can put a 203 rotor on there, but I'm too lazy to do that. cai
For a mod use 160-185.For a stock use 180-203.The bigger the more powerful!
Adam-Griffin
In my opinion, it's better to have too much power than not enough so i've always used a 203.
Simpson
160 - Is more than powerfull enough, if your looking at a mono trial then the 160 brake on the rear was a total beast so dont think you'd have any real problems running one if you know how to keep it maintained and working well, So yea good enough.180 - Is the Hope mono trial i had on the front of my mod, perfect more than enough power again, had enough modulation for everyday and non front wheel moves, but if you gave it a tugg then it was more than happy to lock right up203 - looks like a dinner plate on you wheel on a mod, i ran a 203 on my stock, BB7 but found it way too powerfull really, was a whey *right over your bars* type of brakeSo all in all id say 180, good middle compramise and with a Hope you wont be struggling for performance
Bearded Midget
ive run a 160mm hope mono trial on the front for several months, rarely slips, only time it slips is probably when ive rode over oil or something lol. but its a perfect brake and i can find modulation in it aswell as a really good lock. just takes getting used to the lever and learning how well your brake will work for the distance you pull the lever in
Dave Anscombe
ive always ran a 180.....no problems at all.....Dave x

Matthew_Gibson
Been running 203mm for ages, On mod and stock. Was and is the best brake used. Thats with Avid BB7
ogre
160mm rotor on a mod wheel has the same leverage as a 200mm on a stock wheel or something like that, according to one of the tarty lads i think 160'll be fine on a mod.
J Trials 31
Alright, thanks guys! So a 160 or 180 it is. Will probably be a 160 because I can get a better deal on that.
Muel
Get a 160mm, I run dual 160mm mono trials and they are brilliant. When they are bedded in right they work perfectly. They take ages to bed in properly though, unless you ride up and down some hills and squirt water on them. I just put mud on the rotors, ride round for a few minutes to get them hot, wash the mud off, rinse them out really well, ride it round again until the water has evapourated, then they work perfectly.
