stritm0nkey
1. remove the cable and the outer casing, you don t need it2. tune the screws on the body of the derailleur to put it in the same line as the rear cog and to block lateral motion3. adjust the length of the chain by removing links if necessary4. tune the screw near the hanger to adjust the tension
Ben John-Hynes
All i did wasRemove the jocky wheel at the start of the arm, so the only jocky wheel on there is the one at the end, bolt the mech onto the hanger, pull the arm up towards the chainstayrun the chain through it and ther you go.A lot of people will say"Lock it out with a spoke or cable"It's just not necessary. trials_pimp
My Mehtod For Mech Tensioners:Remove Shifter cable ect.Remove Mech, take of Clip behind mouting bolt, remove plate and spring.Fit mech to hanger with magra washer (or similar) between mech and frame.Adjust Mech to desired gear, with either cable, spoke or screw adjustmentTighten mech mount bolt with mech at desired height.Removing the spring will stop any up/down movement in the mech, and will stop it clattering against the frame.I used this method for over 6 years with good results
forteh
Whenever Ive used a mech for tensioning Ive always left the spring in, locked it off with the screws and zip-tied the parallelogram section tight to the underside of the chainstays and just used the arm to do the tensioning - usually shorten the chain as much as possible so that the jockey wheels are almost inline (inside the chainstay) and the tension increases. It doesnt bang or clatter, gives good tension and is pretty solid - heavier than having a proper tensioner though
