dantpro
I am wondering which is a better rear brake, HS33's or a hydraulic disc?My friend has a hydraulic disc on the back and i have the HS33, im thinking of changing to disk instead of the HS33 and was wondering if its worth it?Has anyone got any opinions on which i should go for?Cheers Dan
Ash-Kennard
stick hs33 if you already have one, much simpler to use. the only benefits of a rear disc are through use in wet/muddy conditions
Ravemonkey
Don't changeIt is really down to personal preference but in my opinion hs33s are so much better as a rear brakeI might consider a disk on the front but never the backOthers will disagree with me but that is what you get when you ask for opinions
Muel
Disks are the bestest. It all depends on what you prefer really, I have used shit hot maguras in the past, and still prefer the disc. Try both and then you will be able to decide for yourself.
Sidehop Stuart
My opinion is to stick with your HS33's. Personally, when i had disc brakes on the back of my saracen then sometimes slipped in wet conditions. Maybe because they were not hydraulic. Peperami
If your friend has a disc, and you have an hs33... why do you need to ask? Surely you can try both see which you like best and fit that one.
sstein
I have hydro discs on one bike and maguras on another. The maggies are so much more powerful and slip much less. They are the ultimate one finger brake.
Ben John-Hynes
Stick with maggie. They're like... totally wow!
Alex Dark
maggies are a far better option....the only disadvantage is the decrease of braking power in the wet
Mike Winton.
Depends what you prefer ive tried dual disc, dual maggie and vee brakes and i prefer the maguras.
mista-neos
I have never had disks but hs33 always manage to mess up the tpa always jams and the brakes always slip. I would stay with hs33s get some good pads and metel tpas then your sorted.
G-baby158
Like people have said its what you like better, but i think you should stay with your maggie if you have some good pads and a good bleed it will be just as good/better as a disc, and if you have got that then whats the point in wasting money that you dont have togreg
X-rider
Matter of preference i think. I used to run a disk on the back, but wasnt quite grippy enough for my liking. Changed to a hs33, and had a koxx booster on it, and it was lush!
NileBrownâ„¢
Maggies fo' sho.I had a mint rear hs33 - 04 with a RB lever blade, water bled, koxx browns on a fresh grind and was soooo good, even matt bird who was at the time devoted to dual disks liked how it performed. It was actually the best brake ive ever run and ive tryed vee and prefer hs33 by far.
The Duck
Stick with a maggy. I've used everything and maggys are best.Disks are the worst (for me) because every time I f**k up a side hop, I'd land on the rotor. So would cost me around £80 a ride
Alex@Flawless Bikes
Maggie's / Good Vee are better. If you think about it having a Maggie / vee is like running a 20in/26in rotor! Then again it all depends on the set up.
Ben H!
well it all depends on the setup of the brake to be honest mate maggie's are probably more popular than discs on the rear, i ride a 221 ti 07 dual disc and the rear brake is very good but it depends on what you prefer, if you had e.g a maggie on a smooth rim with green cnc cousts or rock pads that would probably be just as good. it all depends on the setup of the brake hope i've helped mate
jimseyd
i have used dual disk on non trials bikes and they are excellent. however, they just dont have the bite of maguras, and only have a real advantage in the wet. my advice would be maguras with plazzies on a dull grind. my friend uses these and they are awesome, ill probably go for them next time.http://www.discobrakes.com/?s=0&t=2&am...&p=320&
weebryan
i always felt that discs had like a slight delay when locking up so i had to hold the brake longer before i landand didnt always lock cause there suposed to brake in a forwords motion but are good all conditions and quietHs33 are quick reaction cheaper and less likely to break with no rotor to bend but hs33 you need a new rim after you grind the hell out of it if your going to get disc get a good set if not stick hs33 they will be much better than cheap discs
spaceman
I find that rear disc makes your riding look "smoother" because it's so silent. I tried my friends 221 Ti yesterday, and I love his Hope discs', the bite was there, and it didn't slip, not even by a bit. But for disc brake pads, once in contact with just a little bit of oil, and the power is gone. So hs33 for me, instant locking.
Muel
Since when has anyone had to buy a new rotor when you bend it? It takes 2 seconds with you fingers to bend it back.

Muel
Not in my experience of front disks it doesn't.Enough nit picking my posts It wasn't neccarserily aimed at you matey! It's just I hear it all the time, and I find it really easy to just bend them back.Maybe mono trial rotors are easier to bend than others.
