Im Breakig Lots Of Mech Hangers What Can I Do?

Almost every time i go out for a ride I break my mech hanger , what can i do?

I know stop being so c$@p would be a good idea but short of taking 3 hangers out with me there is nothing i know of to do.

I'm now using £20 cncd hangers which are twice as strong as the forged ones , I'm running a hope pro 2 trials bolt through so the onza hanger protector wont work.

If any one can help me it would be grate its starting to get expensive

If youre single speed already then no reason not to either make or buy a tensioner that doesnt mount off the mech hanger :)

I made mine from a dmr sts, some odd brake components lying about and a motorbike exhaust spring - it keeps the chain VERY tight (possibly a bit too tight actually) and is bolted to the dropout and tensions upwards so can never really be hit when landing on it :)

Had to drill a 6mm hole in the web of the dropout (where theres virtually no stress) to bolt it on but its a damn sight lighter, smaller and neater than a rear mech and doesnt rely on a mech hanger to hold it on :)

that looks like a well good idea , but i bet its hard to get your back wheel out

Its pretty easy, undo the wheel and it falls out the dropout putting enough slack in the chain to get it off the sprocket/roller. Putting it in a bit trickier because you need to put the wheel in with the chain off the front sprocket, then wind it on whilst pulling the tensioner out by hand.

All in its still easier than putting a wheel in with a mech :)

Eventually if the pivot fails I shall probably re-engineer it properly to incorporate a radial spring tensioner like U brakes, also make the arm from aluminium plate rather than stainless as its lighter.

yeah i was looking at the onza one but tarty bikes say " Adjustable design fits almost all Quick Release setups (therefore not compatible with Chris King Fun Bolts and Hope Pro2 Trials rear hubs with bolts)." so it wont work with my hub .

Gusset batchelor tensioner. they kind of lock into place because of the set up. A friend of mine is left footed and has been known to land really harshly on his failed sidehop attempts, straight to the tensioner infact and when hes come to fix a suspected snapped mech he found that it hasnt budged.

Thanks

mike.

I still think my tensioner is sick. A universal spanner a dmr red wheel thing and a bolt bolt through the last hole on spanner with the wheel and grind it to what ever shape to sit under your frame and your done lol. And it comes off easy as its on the hub bolt :)

i had the same problem on my A2. the hanger kept bending and the chain was skipping because it was in need of a half link. it felt so unsafe i didn t dare to do things.

now with a modstock it s great. nothing to bend, so i can try all ;). and no chance for the chain to skip so i can ride with confidence.

only 2 minor issues: the chain line is not perfect and the tension is not homogenous. but i really don t care.

Convert to singlespeed and use a 74kingz tensioner or bodge one up yourself :)

if ur running ur chain at max then take out the hanger u dont need it..unless ur frame has an indent then just use a bust one...i went through them a lot n got v expencive on mi koxx now i run a roloff however u spell it n not bust one since......touch wood
