Basically,

Later this month I'm going up. I have no drivers license to take with me, and my passport is out of date. I want to, on the last night, go out and have a good night out. How strict are clubs, pubs, bars on being over 18 and have ID? and do you get arrested if caught etc?

Any help would be great, because google isn't my friend tonight.

the pubs and bars aren't too bad, I was in a few and got served in all of them with no id and I'm only 17 ( don't really look 18 either haha)

dunno about clubs though cause I had to be in my hotel by 1 so didn't really see the point in going clubbing although i was sitting in a bar right across from a fairly busy club and they were checking id often.

I haven't bin to Glasgow so can't really say, but if you have a passport, surely it still counts as i.d even if it is out of date! I'm sure most bouncers just look at the photo and then the date of birth?? Be worth taking it anyway

I'm 17 and get into most clubs without being i.d checked, it's all about body language and how you carry yourself. If you look dead nervous they're going to ask you for i.d just because you look shady, if you just walk past them then all is good

Depends what the club is like, a local club here wont let you in unless you look 'alternative' enough...

Right, having lived in Glasgow for a year I'll give you some decent advice. You probably will need ID (i.e a passport, drivers license, or a nationally recognised proof of age card like a Portman card, although not every club/pub is obliged to accept them so using one can be a bit of a lottery). I'm assuming you'll be heading out for a night in the town, going to a few pubs and maybe a gig venue/club later on? The majority of the biggest and well known clubs in town like Garage, ABC, Bamboo, Cathouse e.t.c all check ID as a matter of course when you get to the door and so do most of the pubs. The places I've just mentioned are the places you'd probably go for a night out if you were visiting Glasgow since they are the most well known - obviously you will be able to find smaller and more obscure places which are laxer with ID policy, but they're likely to off the beaten path and you mightn't get as good an experiance as you would in a 'proper' club. Obviously, if you look the legal age or substantially older you might get away with it - as you suggested the way you dress may affect this somewhat, but I would put my money on you getting ID'd at least once during the evening.

As for the arrest thing, you aren't going to get carted off by the Police just for trying to get in. The bouncers will just turn you away.

Last thing, how old are you? If you are 18 or over, it would probably be worth taking your passport with you - It might be out of date, but I reckon most bouncers aren't going to be bothered by that, or even check it for that matter. I would assume that they'd just check the photo and the date of birth, though this is just my personal opinion. There's a guy on here who actually bounces in Glasgow - his user name is Rob Thomson, so if you PM him I'm sure he could let you know how the out of date passport thing stands.

One thing to note... Dont steal Boge glasses from the pub next door to McGinties (sp!?) The police will stop you and put you up against the van and search you... BASTARDS! that pint cost me £4.60! Trying to blag to the police that we bought the pint glasses from the pub didnt really go down too well. If you go to Ashton Lane, might not get ID'ed too much three places I went I was fine! P.S. I dont even have facial hair.
