Starting College In September...

but when I say college comes first over riding you have a go at me :P

if you keep on top of your work there's plenty of time to ride

also if you use your free's wisely and just go to the lrc and get workdone you'll have to do pretty much none at home

unless your doing like photography/media production/graphics/art type stuff where you have to give up days to film/take photo's/edit etc obviously that cuts your time a lot.

first year of college until January is basically a doss anyways because its all about getting to know each other and finding your way round college and sussing out the workload and stuff then you just work up to your exams and get it all coosht then doss a bit for the remainder of the year and get your finger out bit more in the second year cause you have more work.

I still found time to ride every single day in the first year of college 'cause you really just get about the same amount of work as school but instead of loads of subjects you just do a few... then this year i've properly decided to focus on work and also having a girlfriend and a job has eaten up alot of my time as well

stop being a little bitch and just go on as normal. But if the workload gets a lot then get that done before you ride. easy.

Like everyone says you should have plenty of time to do other stuff, the only advice id give is that if you get coursework, then just make sure you get it in as soon as possible, re-do any mistakes as soon as possible and then get it back in again. Thats the only thing i wish id done better is some of the coursework as i would be weeks behind (as im one of those people who leaves things to the last day) then basically spend a whole week catching up and not being able to go out before i was back on track otherwise i wouldve screwed up.

Talk about commitment Danny...

Do you honestly think ANY course could involve that much work? The only time you could possibly have that little free time, would be in the final year of a difficult degree or post grad course.

With regards to what someone said about getting bumped up a year, if you think you can manage it, work your arse off, shaving a year off your time in college CAN'T be a bad thing. It'd also look good on your UCAS application too...

What course you expecting to do at University?

Structual Engineering Shaun.

oh my god....

You're actually trying to be Schofield aren't you!? I'll bet Prison Break has resulted in a massive rise in applicants for that course

Something to think about - you'll spend your first year pretty much exclusively looking at concrete. It's what put me off Civil engineering. Can pay very well in the end though I guess.

do work, ride when you can...

And thats it. Nothing else.

At the end of the day, college is easy. Its all down to getting your assignments in early and then you have all the free time you need mate :)

....Says the man who has had 2 weeks half term to finish assignments, and is on here now and still hasnt done any. Long night ahead....

Hey guys. I'm starting College in September, the course is a full time course 5 days a week and I just want a bit of advice really.

The course is going to be very time consuming apparently, 5 days a week and alot of work needs to be done at home also. They also tell me i need to go onto University after College.

Now i've been thinking, seeing and it's going to be 3 years at College and then god knows how long at University...Should i just stop riding trials once i got to College in September and dedicate all my time to my course or should i carry on riding whilst at College ?

I don't have any other hobbys apart from bike trials, i dont go out drinking etc or out with friends often.

I really want to do this course and pass and go onto University and get a really good job out of it...Would you say it's for the best if i stopped riding ?

I just want some general advice about it and also what college is like and what i'm to expect and also how different it is from school.

Thanks for your time,

Danny.

I never get threads like this.....are you really that unsure of things in life? If you are going to go to Uni eventually, simple decisions like this really need to be made by you - why would the opinion of strangers sway you?

I've been through art foundation and am now in the last couple of months of my final year of a design degree and the only time i've had to stop riding is these past few months. Of course you don't have to stop - don't be so silly.

UNi/college should not make you sacrifice your life - they would never expect that - you shouldn;t work to live, but really what does my opinion matter you really need to think for yourself.

This is not a dig or having a go, but you can;t have people make decisions for you, especialy not if you're going out in to the world.

You can't take college that seriously Danny, it simply a part of life, if you make it your whole life, you'll go insane.

A simple rule to follow that I have found is, no work at the weekends. Work during the week, and ride at the weekends.
